You know what you’re ordering. However the caterer will suggest sides that are easiest or cheapest for him to prepare. And the baal simcha will often just take the caterers suggestions. The Beer Mayim soda isn’t usually a baal simcha’s choice. It’s governed by the rules of the caterers or halls rav hamachsir. The chasidishe rabbonim generally won’t allow anything but pure Jewish sodas. If you decide to make a simcha in Viznitz, all you’ll get is Jewish soda, no Coke. At Ateres Chaya and Ateres Chynka you can make a choice.
