Ok, here are my newer thoughts:

???? generally does two things:

A. It makes ???? as if it is not.

B. It makes ??? ??? into ??? ?????.

Now, there is a dispute over what is ????. We are ????? that even onions are.

The ?????? ??? ???? says in 96:3 that we will not say both chumros of charif in a case where the charif is only an onion.

So that would solve our issue.
