So they have become “pocket carriers”. They will not carry openly so as not to offend anyone and also to keep the peace, but will carry privately and quietly.
Or they become like me, who doesn’t really care one way or the other.
I don’t use the eruv, but I don’t call people who do so m’chalelei shabbos.
