If a frum Jewish girl starts wearing a nose-ring it’s a huge statement about how she perceives herself and how she would like to be perceived. It’s screaming – ‘Look at me – I don’t care about what’s normal, I’ll wear/do what I like, I’ll express my individuality in a HUGE way and everybody will notice’
There’s a way to express individuality without screaming for attention. Its a subtlety that has sadly been getting lost over the years since the 60’s.
