Mdd: Well, not so clear anywhere in the Gemara. (Not that I know of, at least; if you have a Gemara that clearly says it, by all means please share it. And no, the Gemara in Sanhedrin around 38b is not clear like that.) But definitely B’feirush in the Shulchan Aruch.
