What happened to those millions of jewish martyrs killed in the Shoah, many were learned and devout. They could not fight back, just as their brethen could not fight back when the pogroms destroyed so many lives earlier in the last century. Yet, go back hundreds of years to the times of David Hamelech and you will see the Jews fighting, defending themselves and learning Torah too.
