Nechomah -“I would be careful with Optalgin. It is supposed to be a “stronger” pain reliever than Acamol, but it can have side effects. I saw one site that shows abdominal pain as one of the most prevalent side effects. What is the point of taking it if the reason you’re taking is for abdominal pain. Maybe the abdominal pain will be worse as a result of the Optalgin?”

Welcome to socialized medicine. Something to look forward to here in the US. He is Not so far off as you think. I had to look it up because this drug is Not used in the US. Actually, one of its’ main uses is Abdominal pain. But where this guy is off is because he didn’t get the diagnosis. IBS is somatic pain, not actual. Optalgin is a pain reliever (NSAID). It works on actual pain, like after surgery, not somatic pain. Shrinks give drugs for somatic pain.

“It’s good that this doctor says they are going to try and help the other issues because hopefully that will help your situation more than the drugs.”

It’s not his job. It’s the job of her therapist and shrink. And if she doesn’t have them -she should get them.

“Don’t read new symptoms in your body unnecessarily. It will just make you more nervous. I learned one time that first year medical students often “have” many of the illnesses that they learn about in medical school, just as a matter of learning the symptoms of different illnesses and probably deciding that they themselves have those symptoms. Don’t fall into that pit.”

The students have temporary Hypochondria. Her issues are Not temporary and need professional help. Noone on this site are replacements for therapy and medications.
