BBQ today is much less of an issue than turkey on Thanksgiving. There’s nothing religious about it nor was there ever was. Also, the reason for a barbecue has no direct ties to the day. It’s just that the best (and only good) times to barbecue are hot summer days where you don’t have to go to work. I could see someone making the claim that it’s a Chukas Hagoyim issue, but I really don’t think it is.
