I think the “leaders” and “system” that let Shadchanim be in charge are to blame.
I also think that if we eliminated the “professional” Shadchan and just let friends set each other up, or meet naturally, etc without the reliance and safety net of a “shadchan”, the Shidduch scene would look better.
