Mosh3. Perhaps it is the father in me worrying a little to much. I have a teenage son, type 1. I would NEVER let him go to sleep away (or even day camp)camp without people knowing that he had type 1, understood what it meant, understood insulin therapy and understood how his pump worked and how to use it. I would even be sure there was someone who knew how to give insulin injections with a syringe in case the pump malfunctioned (which it has, several times, in the 7 years he has it) This doesnt mean that everyone in the camp must be told, but certainly, the director, division head, counselor camp doctor and/or nurse. I dont know how you and your family feel about “people knowing”, but my son has no issues with telling people. He doesnt broadcast it, but he doesnt hide his pump either (he wears it clipped to his belt like a cellphone). Do you wear some sort of medical ID (bracelet, chain, attachment to watch)? My son wont, but he does carry a card in his wallet with pertinent info.
