Yay Cofee, i’m so glad to hear that!!! i hope it has an immediate and complete recovery!!
About fasting versus not fasting – of course i know what you’re talking about! i’m like, will i make it to the end of the fast.. and there’s been times – including tisha b’av when i couldn’t fast.. (like the way you put it: “youre JOKING right?!?!” lol, right!!) Somebody once pointed out to me that the mitzvah is not to eat, so even if you are eating when you have to – when you’re not eating it’s still “fasting” … well not exactly but at least it sounds good 😉
The point about testing basal’s – well i also used to think that until somebody pointed out to me – i think it was Rabbi Meisals – that when you fast, as the day goes on you’re body needs less insulin because you’re fasting. Maybe because you’re not eating the body keeps the food and doesn’t break down the sugar..
If the numbers are good i see no reason why i shouldn’t fast.. on the contrary, when i eat i go so high, it’s the fasts when i actually have good numbers! i’ve checked it out with a Rav and my dr. and they both agree.
Talking of how low you let it go – one fast some years back before i even was on multiple injections, i let it go down to a 45 because i knew i’d start going up soon.. which did happen! My Dr at the time (changed since) blew a fit over it!! (yup, i understand it;))
