Be Happy, so sorry to hear about your nephew contracting polio from the virus. I know that over here in EY, they used to give the live polio vaccine orally – OPV as well as IPV, the inactive version. We were told to wash our hands well for 2 days after the vaccine after changing the child’s diaper. Then several years ago someone contracted polio from contacting the dirty diapers of a child who had received the vaccine but not within 2 days, more like 6 weeks prior to the contact. At that point it was decided (don’t know if this international or just local to EY) to only give the IPV vaccine. I don’t think you can get polio from that form since it is inactive.
