Hopefully there will never be a Jewish president. Otherwise all the problems will be “the Jews” fault.

There seems to be something missing from the question posed by always happy27. Surely if a goy ran for president “who shared all your beliefs and principles regarding politics,” one would vote for him/her. Why would the same principal not apply if this candidate – “who shared all your beliefs and principles regarding politics” – were Jewish? Unless always happy27 thinks that there are many anti-Semites on this web site, the question posed – as written – has only a single, obvious answer, not the sort of question for the Coffee Room.

    Why wouldn’t I?

Counties that have had Jewish heads of government and/or heads of state:

    Israel

    Italy

    France

    Austria

    Guyana

    Singapore

    Panama

    New Zealand

You can add the United Kingdom to the list if you are willing to count Disraeli, who wasn’t much of a Christian.

    There may be others.

No way! That would be a recipe for instant nation-wide anti-Semitism. Whoever is president gets the blame for everything. Why look for more trouble than we’ve got?

I agree with “Midwest2” 100%. Politics. Especially, National Politics is a very brutal game. And a candidate who happens to be Jewish who has the qualifications to lead would still be blamed openly or subtly for being Jewish. And you’ve got to have a very thick skin. You can’t go cry to Mommy. And you can’t complain (when your political enemies knock you at every turn.) that you’re being ganged up on because of your race or ethnicity. You gotta give credit to Pres. Obama that he hasn’t used the Race Card. And he has admonished others (Like Gov. Patterson) for using it.

never gonna happen, President Obama needed the Jews, Blacks, and guilty conscience white folks to win, a Jewish candidate will not get that kind of backing

TheGoq – evidently Jews, Blacks and guilty-conscience white folks make up the majority of voters.

He doesn’t have to. He has half the country doing it for him.

I would most probably vote against a Jewish candidate. However, the reason won’t be his faith rather his stance on issues. Unfortunately, the majority of the Jews in the United States have the liberal philosophy. Otherwise, a phenomenal Jewish candidate (in the likes of Eric Cantor) that will be the best of the pack will get my vote. I don’t vote for religion (he’s won’t be my Rav), race (I’m not a liberal), sex (I’m not a feminist), or anything else but issues, stances, performance and intellect. When I walk into the voting booth I put aside the looks and religious affiliations for a moment as I pull the lever (or fill out the ballot). That is why I can often criticize Frum politician, because it is a non-issue for me. For example, I believe that had Dov Hikind’s name been Al Sharpton, he’d been out long ago. Of course, two politicians of equal belief and quality with one a Frum Jew, he’d very likely get my vote.

An anti-Semite will blame all troubles on the Jew regardless. It was always

the “Jewish Bankers” etc. and so it will stay. I was horrified when I read anti-Semitic comments on DailyKos (a shout-out to charliehall) about a story regarding Eric Cantor. If the candidate won’t cause a Chillul Hashem (by conducting anti-Torah policy and be scandal-plagued) and won’t be prejudice (as Barack Obama was – Gates’ arrest, Black Phanters etc.), anti-Semitism will most probably only rise a minor percent.

Bottom Line: A candidate for president should be elected according to his positions not religion. It shouldn’t affect the way you vote either way, for or against.

“if there would be a jew who ran for president who shared all your beliefs and principles regarding politics would you vote for him or would you not vote for him?”

There is an inherent stira in this question.

No Jew who shares my beliefs would ever run for president.

As the Kli Yakir discusses, Yidden in galus (while being good citizens) should maintain a low profile.

The last thing they should be doing is running for president.

Depends on who he is running against. I would not base it on religion at all, rather on his beliefs. Personally, as someone else mentioned- it would be a bad idea to have a Jewish president.

If it is the comment I’m thinking about, I gave it a hide-rate meaning I thought it should be removed from the site.

I oppose Cantor’s politics, but I share his religion.
