Yes i have been watching the Olympics the other day i saw women’s water polo i figure its ok to watch cause most of them look like men.
Yesterday Aly Raisman won her second gold and third medal of these Olympics while doing her floor routine to hava nagila she is jewish and brought attention to the 40th anniversary of the munich tragedy in her post competition interview.

I am finding myself surprisingly agreeing (almost) with Choppy. THe IOC is a bunch of anti semitic robber barons, there are too many athlestes who are self absorbed, and the whole concept takes too much from a tradition of avodah zarah. I could get my head around a sports competition without the “olympic” baggage a bit better.

The internet can be used with conditions. The Olympics is unconditionally and irretrievably treif and pritzus. (Both as separate and distinct issues.)
Proudly watching the olympics. The coverage has been excellent, although the time difference between here and London does cause some problems due to events being tape delayed. But overall it’s been great. Particularly the good sportsmanship displayed by most of the athletes of all countries. A few bad eggs were sent home, but the vast majority have shown class and professionalism, as opposed to “pro” athletes.
we are following it in my home and are very proud of Aly Raisman. We have watched the various competitions and they did not give us any sinful thoughts.
If someone doesn’t like it, that’s their business but it is not ttreif. and as taka said…. if you think its treif then so is the internet. why are you here?

To me, the biggest Treif of this year’s Olympics, is:-
1) Having the opening ceremony on a Friday nite, especially with Israeli athletes participating in this ceremony being Mechalel Shabbos b’Farhesya.
2) Having the opening ceremony on Tisha b’Ov nite, a nite which has and still does portend disaster & sadness.
3) Albeit I’m not a Muslim, but having the Olympics during the month of Ramadan, and religious Muslims fast, shows total lack of any respect and tact for any religion or religious values.
As for all the other issues, that is the IOC’s problems, and the absolute least of my concerns.
You guys are hysterical, and where can I get a copy of that dino show?
Also, I am not a scholar, but, I do recall that there is some provision about putting others down because they don’t do things the way you do/think they should. Something about how we should be so busy keeping our own houses in order that we would not have time to tell others how to keep theirs? Or was it that those who live in glass houses (as we all do) should not throw stones?
On the topic of the Olympics, did anyone else hear that the ITALIANS were the only ones to observe the minute of silence with the ISRAELIS for the Munich murder victims? Interesting but not surprising that the US and all the other “great friends of Israel” were not willing, and that the Olympic Committee as a whole was unwilling to make it part of the official opening ceremony as requested.
I saw her floor routine using Hava Nagila as her sound-track and was moved by it, and amused by the announcer saying that she had chosen it as a representation and in honor of her background (couldn’t’ quite bring himself to say the J word). I believe that she won the gold medal too.

Ally raisman made such a Kiddish Hashem imo. I didn’t watch her routine live but I found it on YouTube. I’m really proud of her that she did this especially when they refused the moment of silence. I have never been to invested in the Olympics but I was a gymnast when I was little so I enjoy watching that.
We shouldn’t be making snide remarks at choppys expense. We should respect that everyone lives their lives according to how they see fit. Some do find the Olympics to be complete pritzus and some don’t ( like me)
Ally Raisman made a chillul Hashem just being part of the Olympics. Look how many otherwise good Jews mistakenly thought she did something right. And I don’t even need to see a picture to know that the type of sport she participates in requires her to publicly display pritzus.
147: Someone told that to me and we actually looked into it. Pashtus is that the flag-bearer was the only member of the Israeli team who was actually M’challel Shabbos. All you do it walk.
It was on Shabbos, which isn’t really Tishah B’av, but the point still stands. And I didn’t look into this, but someone told me that events with Muslims in them were deferred until night whenever possible or they were as early in the morning as possible before the fast had enough time to really affect them.
I suppose Sam would have no problem with someone working on Shabbos if “all” his job is having corporate meetings that day.
How is “Jewish pride” a chillul Hashem? Is she conservative, mo? I have no idea but I am sure that she made a positive impression on the millions of people watching, especially since there has been a lot of negative press for Jews lately.
Choppy: I didn’t say it was okay or right. All I was saying, after the fact, is that there may not have been actual Chillul Shabbos involved.
MR: Firstly, her sports entails dressing pritzudik. It is a chillul Hashem that she dressed like that and was in public like that. And secondly the Olympics itself is the antithesis of Torah Judaism.
Choppy was your deal?? Why do you have so much hate towards people who aren’t like you. Treat people how you want to be treated. Hashem judges you the same way you Judge others. If you show Rachamim so will god, if you show din, so will god.

Absolutely. And as I mentioned in the other thread, this is not a discussion about watching TV in general. The issue here is whether it’s allowed for a man to watch non-tzanua women on TV, and whether one should be flaunting the fact that he does.
MorahRach, see the above. Again this is not about watching the olympics, it’s about watching scantily clad women.

Sam2: Almost impossible. They are prevalent everywhere. Right from the newscasters at the games who themselves are dressed inappropriately, to the audience members you will see displayed, to practically every female athlete. None of them are dressed anywhere near appropriately.

Because I NEVER said which events I watch, or which I feel comfortable watching, or – for that matter – which I would consider to be over the line.
I mentioned owning a television, and that I watch the Olympics. That was all.
So, it’s funny that I’m being attacked for the horrible sin of watching “non tzanua” women on TV when I haven’t said that I do.
The speed at which other posters here judged me – to the point where I was told to leave the site by one, and the moderators were asked to remove my posts (they don’t seem to have done so), when I have done nothing wrong is fascinating.

Concerned its not just you i made a joke early in this thread about watching womens water polo.
More than one Baal Teshuva has related and even some non-Jewish people have related television as such. Besides that it is hardly a secret. What the wider world consider even “normal”, is pritzus al pi halacha. And the Olypmpics in particular is much much worse than what you would normally see.
