May an ashkenazi be a shliach tzibur in a Yemenite shul?

The mechaber paskens that you can’t appoint a shliach tzibur that doesn’t know the difference between alef and ayin. The Mogen Avrohom says that if everyone talks like that it’s muttar.

My question is, in a Yemenite shul where the tzibur does know the difference, may an Ashkenazi who doesn’t know the difference daven for the amud?

Does it go according to the shul or does it depend on where the shliach tzibur is from?
