I do not think UBL’s death will make a big difference at all. It will make Americans feel better for a few days, but that’s it. Nothing really has changed.

    ronrsr,

I disagree with you. Although the “War on Terror” will still go on as many terrorists still target American interests, here and abroad, it is a symbolic, huge win. It emphasizes U.S. strength and shows that America remains the most powerful nation on earth. It also underscores American intelligence capacity.

While Bin Laden’s death will not stop the terrorists, it broke their morale. We did not win the “War on Terror” yet; however, we won a huge victory and major step to end the war on terror.

Just heard his speech. Sounded good but did he mean what he said? He sounded devoid of emotion. Maybe I’m just being too critical. What are the thoughts of our cr members?

I heard part of the speech. My favorite part is where he said that Bin Laden wasn’t a Moslem leader.

Really? It was probably a coincidence that all his followers were moslem, and he did what he did in the name of moslems, and a very significant portion of moslems agreed with him.

Great news! While the killing of Bin Laden is obviously a momentous occasion, his capture to stand trial would have been even better. I’m sure they tried this and it didnt prove possible so, as the saying goes, Dead or Alive! Boruch Hashem and well done!

i noticed both. The “I” bit was driving me crazy.

It means something good. Boruch Hashem

(It can also carry a negative side, as BHO’s reelection chances may have unfortunately gone up)

BHO is funny. “At my direction…” He opposed the war on terror. He actually even gave up the name. That was one of his first foreign policy moves, to stop “The War On Terror”. He would have offered to sit down with Bin LaDin and work out the differences if BL had humored himself with that game like the iranian terrorist.

I just heard that they have buried him at sea in accordance with Islamic law and traditions so as not to further antagonise muslims by not burying him within 24 hours of death, which would not have been possible on land as it would have taken too long to decide where to bury him.

Personally I think they buried him at sea so that there can be no shrine made at his grave. It would have attracted fanatics for centuries to come.

And the details and newsroom commentaries continue to trickle in. I just heard an international expert say that the troops would have been instructed not to capture him alive because a trial and subsequent lifetime imprisonment would prove too complicated and problematic.

I agree – the “I” bit was quite obvious and annoying. He’s not the only one who gets credit here. But I guess he’s trying really hard to get re-elected next year.

The part about bin laden not being a moslem leader, I see what he was trying to say, however as Papa said, he did what he did in the name of moslem and all of his followers are moslem.

simchashachayim – wow – the same day as hitler yemach shemo? Hashem works in mysterious ways!

I am not a big Obama supporter at all but come on give credit where credit is due!

Do you not understand World Politics at all, especially when dealing with possible and probable retaliation?! (Chas V’Shalom)

I thought Obama’s speech was extremely appropriate and delivered beautifully. It was obvious just from looking at his face how much stress he was under and how tired he was yet, he was eloquent and in control.

Lay off your agendas for 5 minutes and just be appreciative that Hash-m chose him to finally get the job done.

Give up. He got the world’s number one terrorist. That is much more important than all the cheerleading done by the previous administration.

” He would have offered to sit down with Bin LaDin and work out the differences if BL had humored himself with that game like the iranian terrorist.”

Actually, he said during the 2008 campaign that he would kill Bin Laden. He kept his promise.

    You owe him an apology.

Caller on the Lou Dobbs show says he wishes they would have hung OBL’s body in the WTC area for a week to allow all those who’d have wanted to spit on his body, to do so.

Obama fans, ever heard this one before? A family moved from NY to Jerusalem and someone asked their little boy whether he likes it better there. “Oh, much better,” he said. “We’ve lived in the US for 12 years and we never had a Bar Mitzvah. Now we’ve lived here for just a few months and poof! my brother gets Bar Mitzvah!”

I agree to give Obama his due credit here (although I’m not a supporter), but give Bush his due credit as well. Although he didn’t kill Bin Laden, no further attacks on U.S. soil took place after 9-11, which was a great surprise and relief to me. And was a lot more than “cheerleading”.

BTW, I’m surprised at the manipulation of someone’s screen name.

Why is the title of this room baruch dayan haemes?! That’s what you say when something bad happens. The title should be Baruch Hatov Vihameitiv or Ba’avod reshaim rinah. As for the concept of not rejoicing at your enemy’s downfall, I am not aware of that being brought down lihalach, while the idea of biavod rishaim rinah is (yore deah 345 seif 5).

    msseeker,

Good joke. Bear in mind though, that the intelligence used for this operation was only gathered over the last several months, and that the compound is supposedly only five years old.

DY: Actually the initial intelligence leading to Osama’s assassination was gathered in Bush Administration in 2007. That being locating the Osama’s personal courier, which the further intelligence was built upon. Additionally, it is noteworthy that the world’s most wanted man had been tracked down as a direct result of information obtained from Guantanamo detainees. Yup, the torture worked.
