Why do some women wear boots when there is no inclement weather?

I find it to be highly untzniusdik. As if to say, “Everybody look at what I’m wearing.” Goyishe tramps wear them to also attract attention.

Frumguy, just because you have a high tolerance for cold, doesn’t mean everyone else does too. I wear boots throughout the winter just to keep the cold out.
I agree. I sometimes see women wearing boots when the sun is shining and it’s in the high 70’s. I find it very “prust.” it is most certainly a fashion statement and very unappropriate.

Like it or not when a Chassidic man goes outside of the Shetl and into a crowd of say on the Subway. The long Peyos, The Long Beard , The Long Frock and a streimel is noticed by everyone. That might not be the intention, but it is. It definatly stands out more than a pair of boots

The OP is probably referring to wearing boots with short skirts. In that case, it’s the short skirt that’s the problem. Boots themselves are if anything more tznius than shoes.

I heard that someone saw a picture of Sarah Schenirer that was taken in the wintertime, in Poland. She was wearing boots. These holy women are trying to be like Sarah Schenirer. Who are we to criticize such lofty ideals?
Yatzmich – For some reason the boots make a woman more attractive and I assume that’s the reason that they wear them when it’s not because of weather.
Please clarify the current rules of tznius (circa 2012): Is it assur to wear clothing that makes one look attractive? Is one supposed to walk into a clothing store and fine the most ill-fitting/ugly thing to wear that is loose and covers knees/elbows/clavicle? The line of what is/is not permitted isn’t clear to me, that’s why I ask.
Also, at what temperature is it permitted to wear boots?
A woman is allowed to dress in a way that she feels pretty. Most boots are not suggestive but guys will be attracted to anything that moves.

If calling attention to the body with fashion is untzniusdik, then we must rule out other things as well.

As a matter of fact, how about we encourage young women in the parsha of shidduchim to do that?? Don’t dress attractively. It may be like wielding a knife if you do. Dress ugly and hope for the best.

No need to be extreme, however due to the fact that the fashion industry is geared towards making every woman into a piece of meat, a woman who wants to dress Tznius in this generation has to shop very carefully and be very honest if what she is buying is “really” Tnisdik or just looks great on her and she is therefore buying it.
Just because it is being sold in a store owned by a “frum” Jew does not make it Tzniusdik. Thats not a Hechsher in any way.

I leave the house for work before 5 am. Sometimes, its cold then or its supposed to be cold for the day. Then I find out its actually a warm day.
Also, my office is pretty cold, even when its warm outside. So when I don’t wear steel toed shoes, I either wear sandals (April-October) or boots (October-April).

Please get your definitions right. There’s fashion and there’s tznius. it might coincide but do have 2 different definitions.

I have been married more than 10 years. My husband has never once deigned to notice another woman’s footwear. He barely notices mine! I think you have a problem with shmiras einayim. Stop worrying about what the women are wearing and focus on yourself.

i dont know about all of you, but i cant fathom how those barely there womens shoes are supposed to keep your feet warm in the winter. i have snow boots, really nice boots for shabbos (that someone gave me, otherwise i would not have them) and a pair of warm boots to keep my toes warm. when my toes get cold, the rest of me gets cold, and i cant warm up. and no one has ever told me that boots are a problem. please do us all a favor, and stop making up new laws and restrictions. there are really enough out there already as it is, and its hard enough to just keep the laws as they are. please dont make it harder on us…..
I think the designers of 5″ stiletto heel boots (for snow?) should be subjected to reading this page and memorizing it. Oh, the pain of it all!
