Please don’t burn your collection of plastic bags and packages along with the chometz. I know of no posuk that says ‘for seven days plastic bags shall not be seen.’

In my community in Israel, where the city amazingly puts barrels for chometz outside apartment buildings and doesn’t put out the fires, the plastic smolders throughout the night and continues burning through the next day. I saw one barrel shooting flames throughout Shabbos – with children playing next to it. Our entire apartment smells of burnt plastic. Can’t be healthy and it certainly is not pleasant.

Sorry for your inconvenience and how you feel. But their only intentions are that they can’t hold loose chametz and get it all over their cars until they get to the Fire and also can’t hold tons of loose chametz versus 1 big bag of chometz

    Please understand other people

    Burning plastic fumes are dangerous.

    Mashiach Agent:

Maybe someone should invent some type of bag or container made of a material that is safe to burn. I just can’t think of any material like that….

Understand other people how? That these other people are willing to release carcinogens into the air because they insist on burning plastic? Better that they should throw the chametz into the fire and throw the plastic bags into a garbage can.

Meno, paper bags seem to be pretty rare in Israel. Here in the U.S., I use a Trader Joe’s paper bag for my chometz (they are the only grocery store I shop at that uses paper bags).

So take the chametz out of the bags.

Ayyyy but what about the crumbs?

Just dump them on the ground. That’s what bitul is for. (I think – maybe crumbs are even batul automatically)

Plastic is toxic to burn. Put your chometz in paper bags, then put the paper bag in plastic for safe transport. Take the paper out of the plastic, and toss in the fire.
