I’d like to try making chili instead of cholent. Any ideas/suggestions?

    Thanks

What’s next, eating pig ham fried in chazir bacon oil on Yom Kippur?!

I use beans, onions, ground beef, garlic, salt, etc.

Just look up a regular chili recipe and put it in a slow cooker. Add extra water as is cooks off throughout the night.

I add salsa after serving. I find slow cooked peppers to get bitter.

    Good Luck 🙂

    LevAryeh, LOL!!

MDG, what kind of beans? Do you brown the meat first (it seems from your reply that you don’t)? Thanks!

    Usually red beans.

About browning the meat: it depends on your crock pot. If it cooks your regular cholent meat well, then you can also put in the ground beef raw and let it cook. Otherwise, brown it first.

we jave chili every shabbos. We brown the meat and use canned beans. It would get over cooked by shabbos lunch so we started serving it on Friday night instead.

I made dairy cholent one shabbat with Morningstar Farms crumbles. It came out well. Left the pot in a low, low oven over shabbat.
