Does anyone know of ANY kosher restaurant or take out ANYWHERE (preferably)in the Tri-state area that caters exclusively to gluten-free diets? It is not sufficient if such a place claims to prepare things without gluten, while preparing gluten foods in the same kitchen. I am making this enquiry for someone who has celiac disease, who tells me she has repeatedly found that people truly do not “get” the seriousness of being scrupulously careful with cross-contamination of utensils, pots and pans, ingredients, etc., and think it is sufficient to just not get any flour in the food being prepared.

Just to be clear for those who are unfamiliar with celiac, imagine how much chometz you can allow to be bateil in Pesach food without making it chometz. That is the precise amount of gluten that can be bateil in the food eaten by a celiac patient. that is to say, ZERO! No traces are tolerated by the body. Until I was educated about this by the person who asked about kosher restaurants, I had no idea of the seriousness of even the possibility of contamination by even trace amounts. So if anyone has information, it would be much appreciated.

I spoke to my Rov just this past week, who told me that I may eat Matzo between Purim & Pessach despite my Minhog being otherwise, so as to stay away from the gluten and ensuing problems from gluten that affect me.

Shimons Pizza on Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills, sells Gluten Free Pizza. They do not make it in the store, they are reheating a brand of certified GF Pizza that you can buy online. I have ordered it in the store, and have seen how careful they are about cross contamination.

Forgive my ignorance, but how does eating gluten (matzah is made from flour and flour has gluten, except for a very limited type of OAT flour matzah)for a month before Pesach, possibly help you with your gluten problems? You need to stay completely away from it!

Thank you, to the other two posters who responded, but a)of course I cannot buy food from a place without knowing the hashgocha and b) we know about the pizza, but need real meals for the person involved, not just a snack type meal. FIsh, chicken, or meat, with side dishes, are needed. So if anyone hears of such a place, please post it. I thank you anyway, for the suggestions.

Besides the ones mentioned before I don’t know of any other earery’s but I do know that there’s a pizza store in Manhattan- Mike’s Pizzeria they sell a special Gluten Free Pizza pie baked under the GF Foundation guidelines. You can get a whole meal there-a ceaser salad and pizza and you have a whole supper! I never tasted something so similar to the real thing. There’s also on Avenue J and Coney Island Avenue ‘Essen’. I am very sensitive to Gluten and I tried the burger they have there-they leave out the bun. Their home fries are also GF. Their grilled chicken is also GF. i know they are careful about cross contamination because I would be in so much pain if it had the minutest amount of gluten in it.

I need to compliment you on how you explained the severity of eating GF. It shows how severe it is and how it’s not something you can ‘cheat’ on.

    Good Luck.

Perhaps the Rav gave a hetter to eat Gluten Free “Matza style squares” (made from Tapioca starch) on which one makes a Shehakol 🙂

Thank you. I feel terrible for the person who was diagnosed (LAST Pesach) and it is so hard for her. She ate oat matzah that was certified GF and after tasting it, I conclude she would have been better off eating the cardboard box that it came in! I pray that in the near future an enzyme is discovered and mass produced that enables gluten sufferers to be able to safely ingest it, even in limited amounts, i.e. aslice of challah on Shabbos and Yom tov a sandwich, a bowl of cereal that is not rice or corn, things that the rest of us really take for granted.
