Ive heard some very interesting ones lately ;)….I know some people have chex, so they get alot of checks that year, or my sister said we should have berry sucking candies for a berry successful year ;)…far fetched but cute lol..Does anyone else have any other funny or traditional simanim they’ve heard of

the mishna berura says you can make up your own things that sound like other things. For example yogurt is gut yohr, banana is bon anne, raisins and celery for rise in salary etc etc. There are more, cant think of them at the moment. Can you?

We told my cousin who is just starting Shidduchim that DATES are very good to have on ??? ????, and she found some sort of siman for a honey moon.
in my family we have a mesora that booze is a good siman for booze.

My family eats dates so that I will get some dates… I guess they want me married off.

Cashews are nuts so one should avoid them on Rosh Hashanah.
I also eat dates so that I’ll have a lot of dates. 🙂

I’ve heard of cutting a pear in half to “find the other half of your pair”.
Dates seem like a bad siman b/c dating sucks; getting married is the ikkar.
I mean, of course, Dates for dating. Dates is i siman for having enemies destroyed, so that’s great.
WIY: Only Egoz has the Gematria of Cheit. So not all nuts. Only walnuts, hazelnuts, and anything else that can legitimately be called an Egoz. Peanuts, for example, are fine. I don’t know if cashews fall under the catogry of “Egoz”.

Someone asked my if they should get a sheep head. I told them to get a lamb chop and say “yehi ratzon that we should be a rib and not a tail).

TMM: You ate shoe polish and blimp rubber? Something tells mean that’s a great Siman for a quick trip to the hospital.
The sefer Seuda Secrets by Rabbi D. Meisels has some interesting stuff about this. (It is a chassidishe sefer).
E.g., Belz does not eat apple dipped in honey, because apparently there are opinions that the honey is not tofel and perhaps would require a bracha, and to avoid the shaila, they refrain from eating it altogether.
I’ve been told to eat dates so that I would have a lot of dates (or maybe not a lot – just good ones). I was at my best friend’s house the Rosh Hashana after I was told that, and I wanted to eat a date, but I was too scared of bugs. She was even more nervous about bugs than I was, but she ate one in my zchus since I didn’t want to. Is that a good friend or what!!!
(Now, I’m waiting for all the comments about how irrational it is both to eat dates for a segula and to be scared of eating dates because of bugs and to let your friend do it for you because you are too scared to do it yourself…)

Just throw everything together in a blender and make a “Simanim Smoothie” (patent pending)…
Maybe we could get someone in the CR to write up a general Yehi Ratzon to cover everything

Everyone is talking about dates….can someone think of something for bishows
Happygirlygirl – I think a bishow can be considered a type of date. It’s not that different from a sit-in date. I actually have done a few of those.
