oyrocks: Would you sell golden crosses if that makes you money?

zsdad: Yes, office romances are just as bad. Which is why you shouldn’t socialize with the opposite gender in an office if you must work in one, and it is far better to not work in one.

“Do you people have any idea how many marraiges were RUINED because of face book accounts?”

    No clue, do you?

mikehall12382- in all respect, i think u shud stop argueing with people bec its nto going anywhere bec ur not really listening to what they’re saying. facebook is obviosuly something u feel very attached to and deleting it sounds like it wud be cutting off one of your limbs, so you can just calm down and stop reading this thread bec its not making a dent and making the rest of us frustrated

It is frustrating that some want to impose their own agenda in a way not as the Kletzky family wished.

Why not follow the Kletzky’s family wishes and remember Leiby in that way.

I am sure the Kletzky’s would be happy with WHATEVER a person chooses to take on for himself l’n Leiby. this thread has gone wayyy past the point of doing it l’n Leiby and has just gotten to why people should delete FB in general so just saying that everyone can stop complaining about “We should actually do something the Kletzky’s want” or “Even the Kletzkys have facebook” etc.

OYR:: I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT!!! MY EX DAUGHTER IN LAW WAS A FACE BOOK ADDICT!!

Mike:: Even just 10 marraiges ruined is 10 too many!!

For all you readers, I love the way you think you can answer for the Kletsky family and interpret their words, the WAY YOU SEE FIT!!! I have a different vision! My vision says we should all try to better ourslves in any way possible. No one is trying to impose on you to lead their lifestyle thay are only trying to make you WAKE UP!!!

    a mamin- nicely said.

mike- one of the more modern rabbis from my seminary was (excitingly) telling the class how he found his friend (a woman) from elementary school on facebook and how they caught up with eachother and how nice that was… i was sitting in that class in SHOCKK and never looked at him the same. A Rabbi!?!? Rekindiling an old friendship with a girl from elementary school!?! BH he is happily married and i hope will stay that way ad mea v’esrim, but this is highly highly innapropriate and there are many examples of where it broke marriages, friendships, families, etc. – just google it… there are LOADS of examples and articles R’L.

lovesbeingjewish….with all due respect, please use a spell and grammar check when posting. I find it hard to follow your argument with all the errors.

Secondly, When both Yeshiva World News and the Leiby Kletsky Memorial Fund remove their Facebook Pages and stop promoting their “interests” on Facebook I will consider deleting my Facebook Page…

“you go up to shamayim and have to watch a video of your life, trust me, every single person will wish beyond belief that they didn’t spend so many hours on facebook “

I hope I will also see how many people I personally got to donate to the Memorial Fund, because I was able to spread the word to friends, via Facebook, using the “LIKE ON FACEBOOK” link they have prominently displayed on the Leiby Kletzky Memorial Fund’s website…the same fund under the supervision of the Family and their Rabbi (obviously they are all aware that Facebook is an important tool and have approved it)…

Look, I never said you should go on it, I don’t care if you do. Just realize that all your arguments against it can be used for anything…Skype, phones, internet etc…And no I don’t feel this is an extreme to make a point…

I don’t understand why you don’t understand that people don’t all follow the same as you…I can quote many prominent Rav’s that say the internet is assur..So, why are you on it? I guess you don’t hold the same as they do and you know what, that is fine too…Should I call you “a lost cause” as you have called me, because you continue to use the web?

Marriages get ruined for lots of reasons and its possible to meet people in lots of ways. Many of them KOSHER

I know of someone who hired a nanny and eventually divorced his wife and married the Nanny. People meet others in Shul , Offices , Business trips , other business outings like lunches , meetings etc.

To blame FACEBOOK for failed marriages is just ridiculus and trying to assign blame where it doesnt belong. YES there are marriages that ended because of facebook, but its not any greater than other ways to meet a person. and probably less.

Sounds like Facebook was used for the good, I’m happy they are now happily married…and the best part is Facebook is free so they didn’t have to pay a shidduch fee or pay other matchmaking sites like like frumster

mike you misunderstood- he isnt married to the woman he was talking to… he is married to someone else and was having a friendly conversation with his old friend on the side..

zehavasdad- “To blame FACEBOOK for failed marriages is just ridiculus and trying to assign blame where it doesnt belong. ” Im not blaming it- all of the people who got divorced because of facebook is blaming it.

You have no proof that large amount of people got divorced because of FB, You just “HEARD” that lots of people got divocred because of FB.

Actually proof as opposed to stories or the occasional truth is better to state.

I clicked on the shiur that was given .

The date of the Shiur was January 1, 2008. From a Shiur given on December 31, 2007. On that date very few people had been on FB and I dont think I had even heard of it then (I am fairly techically savy) I did heard of myspace and had an account, but never really used it (Its not as versatile as FB). It was already condemned before most people had even used it.

mikehall and zehavasdad sound like the same person. i wish much hatzlocha to both of you. there was a time when there wasnt facebook and people still donated to tzedkah. probably even more so. and stop using the lets ban the internet thing. it doesn’t prove anything. we are talking here about WEBSITES on the internet. just like certain clothes in clothing store. the clothing store need not be banned but some clothes should not be bought. so therefore facebook should not be had, as well as other websites that we can all figure out. if someone had one more day one this earth would they spend it on facebook chas? no way!!! we have to look at life that way. realizing that life is precious and can be cut off at any given moment. and fyi facebook is WAY more easier for people to meet each other and we ARE blaming it for failed marriages, bec without facebook there would be LESS failed marriages!! someone who is too shy to approach a lady in shul or the store, would much faster freind them or message them. i can’t even believe someone would say that it’s not facebook’s fault for an increase in failed marriages. i’m not trying to insult anyone here. i’m only trying to help my fellow jews become better people. i am sorry for my ‘insults’ as e/o keeps telling me i am dishing out, i am only just very passionate about facebook being very very bad

I didn’t have time to read all the posts here about facebook. I think lovesbeingjewish is well meaning and wants to do something for Leiby. It’s kind of amusing to be on one website communicating with people you don’t know in the coffee room and not to be on facebook (I know all of the people on my fb page and never communicate or friend strangers). Some people might read this and say Hey, this is a good idea, and delete their account. If that is what will be good for them, great, and if they choose not to it’s their personal choice and they may be doing another great mitzvah and be on a very high leval in other areas. Who are we to know or judge, only Hashem knows.

Yes, we would love to do something for leiby and each of us has something that we chose on our own that is meaningful. Misaskim is in desperate need of sefrei Torah for availim and I thought it was a good idea for the aliyah of Leiby’s neshama. Others have given or done other things.

If one cannot afford to give money for tzaddakah right now, then one can pick another mitzvah. Like loving another Jew. Smiling to others, be nice and dan lekaf zechus. Try to always make a kiddush Hashem. Hold the door open for another person when you go into a store. Saying please and thank you. Just making sure you are a mentsh and make the world a better place where our children feel a little safer.

    thank you.

“Study: 1 in 5 divorces in the U.S. caused by Facebook

    21 December 2009 @ 01:20 pm EDT

New research released Monday shows that Facebook is causing an alarmingly high number of divorces in the United States.”

I’m just stating the facts. Take it or leave it.

I’m done with this thread though.I’ve said my share.

I’ll respond, I think it means that the family has no problem with Facebook being used as a tool…I’ll remind you again that as the admin’s of the fund, they must be aware on how the Fund is being promoted. So, I’d say it does proves something.

    can we agree to disagree?

    mike – Good point.

Like Mike said, you people find something terrible with it so stay away. We’re not following your beliefs; not because we didn’t read what you said but because we don’t find anything wrong with it. We will each choose our own paths to honor Leiby’s a”h memory. If you think deleting a facebook account is the way to do it and have therefore done so, kol hakavod. I, along with many others, believe that having facebook is totally fine and will therefore choose other things l’ilui nishmaso.

So 80% of divorces were NOT caused by Facebook, they had another cause . This is an example of tricks via statistics. Why not focus on the 80% of divorces that had another cause.

Sort of like 1 in 5 people will die of Cancer, Well 5 of 5 people will die so this actually means nothing.

In Gan Eden, What did Adom HaRishon do wrong?

He told Chava not to TOUCH the Etz or you will die, when Hashem told him not to EAT the fruit.

The snake pushed Chava against the tree and nothing happend.

It means that cancer is fifth of causes, and facebook is 20% of divorce causes.

Where is the trick? Sure 5 people die, everyone does, cuz of Chava…. but some die natural, some of heart disease, etc. so if you know causes you can do hishtadlus to try to prevent…

    i see

and what do we learn from Odom exactly?

that we should do only what we are told in the Torah directly?

i guess the thousands of Takanahs that the Rabbaim made, for which they are called our mothers for their great compassion in distancing us from sin, should be repealed.

I guess we should throw out the entire Mesechta Eruvin and most of the voluminous Mesechta Shabbos, and a great deal else of Shas,

because it is all the Takanas of the Tanaaim and Amoroim, to distance us from sin

and throw out the Halachah Seforim as well

    #791467

    mod 80 wise input.
