thanks every body for the copliments.

princess- i like it, very cute.

Sweettooth – glad to hear you too have the times,

Feeling high – Other’s have “symptoms” like yours and mine??

You know, running to the bathroom and drinking without stop,

Feeling floaty, not quite there, with a little headache to top?

Feeling low is a whole different ball game!

But i never get there …so perhaps lows should be my aim?!

But when there’s food around the bg’s go rocketing high,

It’s just a battle to walk on, not give up, at least try to try!!

Will i ever get there… do i dare to wonder?

“Perfection is direction,” is a thought to ponder..

It’s just so much easier not to bother, to let it go,

LOSE THE WEIGHT! Eat the food! And pretend not to know..

But a further is in store, low and behold,

Unless i continue without control, i’ll ruin the mould,

It’s not worth it to have complications in sight,

And… i wanna be available to meet with Mr Right!

Talking of which… Rebbitzen! Where are you right now??

We’re thinking of you! Praying for you! .. Tell us how…!?!!?!

That’s all we can do at the end of the day,

Just to make the correct choices – we can only pray.

It has to be G-d to pull us right through,

Of course with us doing what we need to do,

Because choice or not, we still can’t do it alone,

What better place is there other than the true “home”??!?!

Princess- AMAZING! Did you make that up on the spot? So cool!!!

Dx3- Happy Birthday! Ad Me’ah Ve’esrim in years and in max BG lol!

    #980464

Yes, this forum keeps me going too!!! It can get so tough ya know??? Like if only we can just say “Forget it!!!!” But maybe we’ll be better of to say, “it’s not so bad!” But hey, if you’re being positive – what do you say when you’re high??? Especially when you’re high at your own fault!! ??????????

And.. how on earth d’you manage shabbos???? There is so much food and there’s so much to spike on! Is the only option just to cut down on the food????? It’s been a long time since i’ve even considered to “do” shabbos properly (with insulin i mean) d’ya think it’s at all poss?????

(Being positive: For Sure!!! No Question!!!)

Allsgr8, you said “keep ’em coming,” … so i did 🙂 Yes, i wrote it “on the spot”…i love to write, do it all the time! Didn’t you say you write too??

Dx3 – what about you?? You’re poem was so cute! And… Happy Anniversary to her, make sure she indeed doesn’t go high in BGs!!!

“Ad Me’ah Ve’esrim in years and in max BG lol!” Great comment Allsgr8!!!

allgr8 – thanks for the berachah. i hope you mean when you wrote “and in the max bg” that in the max control! 🙂

    #980466

    Why, thanks for the compliments!

In the max bg – allsgr8 you must mean that it shouldn’t go higher than “120”?!!

    Wanna try that out?!?!!?!?!?

DX- first does this happen occasionally…??. Well if it does then you probably have some dawn piped hormones, which you need to increase your basal.

On the other hand, it is probably because you ate some high carby breakfast like cereal, bagel or pizza whatever it is the high carb food will keep your sugars high for about 2-3 hours (which in your case you ended up being 60 a few hours later probably in result to the food) or even never come down.

sweet – my basal is higher in the morning. and it was a bowl of cornflakes! just cornflakes!!!!!!! what can be wrong with CORNFLAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    #980469

Ask Meisals – he’ll tell you that lots can be wrong with cornflakes!! Sweettooth should be able to answer that one too but they do say it’s not good!!!

Dx3- I meant that 120 should be her highest number. SHe should have great control! 🙂

cornflakes? c’mon what happened to Bran Flakes at least?

Princess- I can write but not poems on the spot.

Shabbos- Yes it could definitely get tough and from the time I was diagnosed until I saw a good number after friday night meal was probably like almost a year! The main carb is challah so try to weigh a slice before on a food scale that counts carbs. This way you have that accounted for properly. THe rest isnt really that carby (at least in my house)…and yeah, basically the real way to have excellent control is to stay away from too much nosh and cake. Of course you can have some but just dont overdo it. Maybe tell yourself before shabbos that you’ll have X amount and try to stick to your commitment! Let me know how it feels to have a “controlled” shabbos!!!:) like I say YOU CAN DO IT!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

cofee- cornflakes are pretty high on the glycemic index. They dont have a lot of fiber and not too much overall nutrtion. Kashi, bran flakes, shredded wheat ..are all much better options. The carb count of cornflakes is pretty low but so is the nutritional value.

Happens to be that my doc doesnt really like that I eat cereal for breakfast even though I eat very high fiber, healthy cereals. She says im better off eating 2 slices of ww bread. I dont listen to her cuz i dont have time for that in the morn but I really should..

Your poems are all GREAT!! Love them!!

Princess, you mentioned earlier “in order to survive you need to eat..and in order to eat you need to give urself insulin”

One correction, insulin is responsible for distributing the sugar(food) to all the cells for energy. So if you eat without taking insulin your literally starving your body.

allgr8- was it today that the omnipod rep came? how did it go?

    #980480

wow cofee ur good!! thanks for asking! yup she came today she was really nice ..All the pumps sound good I dont know what to do now !!! HELP!!! I’m basically jugling between medtronic and omnipod.

I like that medtronic has integrated CGM and the features sound great..

I like that omni is wireless . .but becuase im smallish i dont have that many places to put it cuz either itll show or not enough flesh.. they are coming out with a smaller pod but not till end of the year …

Omni has a 45 day return policy…medtronic is 30 day. Maybe is should start out with omni and if i dont like it ill go with medtronic

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

hmmm sounds like a tough decision!! if your small then you’re right the pod might not be as concealed as it is for me. i didnt know theyre gonna be having a smaller pod. (thats exciting for me!)

im thinking now that maybe youre better off going with the medtronic. the intergrated cgms is prob a HUGE plus! the only thing is the wires and hiding it…. what does your family think?? iim sorry your having a hard time deciding! wtvr choice you make should be the right one and it should help you manage the D!

cofee- Amen! (about making the right choice)… Your always so helpful with decisions!!

so i was thinking about it all shabbos and im leaning toward the omnipod now cuz i like that you dont havta pull anything from hidden places like you do with the pumps in order to bolus or anything… What do you girls do when you want to bolus if you keep it in your tights??

about the CGM I cld get the dexcom but it wont be integrated..i decided its really no biggy cuz im prob not gonna use it that often anyway and besides they are gonna integrate it with the omni soon (i think when they make the pod smalller)

I also like that the pdm is a glucose monitor so ur only carrying one thing..

Basically my only hesitation is hiding the pod…kinda weird cuz initially what pulled me toward the pod was that i thought hiding it was easier than the rest!

reb- good attitude;) ur one step closer!! YAY!!

alls- theyre really gonna do the cgms withthe pod? i wish!!! that wld make my life much easier!

its funny how your hesitations fliped like that! did they say its ok if you put it on ur thigh all the time?

    #980486

Reb – i’m so sorry! We’ll keep praying.. (i really kept you in mind through the days!)

Allsgr8, as long as you get a pump that’s good! i don’t know about the omnipod (when you get on it you can share your thoughts!) but i do hope you come to a decision you’ll be happy with.. Take in consideration that you may want to keep the CGM on more than “just once in a while” .. no, Sweettooth?! About not pulling out your pump all the time, when i’m in public sometimes i use the “audio” feature which is on vibrate. .. So when are you gonna go on it??

Branflakes is just as bad as cornflakes!! It is just sugar!! The only reason why they sell so well is simply because of their advertisement!! There’s people who want to “kill” those cereals because of the damage it had done with the bg’s spiking so high and feeling so high as a result..

    Forever1 – BUT IT WORKS!!!!

Shabbos i really made an effort, i never knew it was possible!! I kept thinking – i’ll try and then i can tell you lot that hey presto, i tried!! I don’t know how much longer it will all last.. you can keep saying the “you can do it!”!!!!!!!

    Oh – and good voch!

sweet- i basically waited to eat when i knew what i was going to eat, and it really helped. only once over shabbos was i over 200

reb- sorry to hear. hopefully you wont have to wait too much longer

allgr8- i personally like the medtronic, but i keep it in a pocket which is easy access. i did keep the pump in a pocket for my daughter and cut a hole from the inside for the tubing to go through. someone once mentioned to my wife about sewing a pocket on the inside of clothing.

there is something called a pump band that i saw on pumpwear.com which is meant to cover the omni so it wont be so noticable.

whatever you choose will be great. Once you adjust to it you will love it!! :):)

thanks everyone!!! I really really appreciate all of your input!! 🙂

cofee- she said that if i wear it on my leg it should be on the top/surface (dont know how to call it) part of my thigh. I liked it on the side…but its really not that noticeable on the surface of my thigh.. I was just playing around with the demo pod that I have and I realized that if I put it on my abdomen and I pull my tights over it it blends it and makes it hardly noticable!! I sound like such an inconsisten person here I keep changing my mind! lol

    #980490

dx3 – you serious?? You didn’t have a bg higher than 200?? That’s excellent!! Is that the normal?? Cute rhyme!! (i like them!!)

A funny question perhaps, just wondering how much insulin you’re (all) taking overall? And even funnier – how many carbs would you say you eat at a regular shabbos ???????

It’s interesting where people keep their pump..! i like that idea of making a hole in the pocket…

I find that because usually people aren’t suspecting anything like this, even if they would see a glimpse they still won’t know…

alls, I use the audio bolus (set on vibrate) when bolusing in public. For me it’s set to .5 unit per button press. Really simple!! Abt the CGM, I never go A DAY without it!!! I feel blind when not wearing it!!!

    Good Luck in deciding.

ps.My advice is to make your decision based on available products, the smaller pod was supposed to come out last year already, so did the integrated CGM…..

wow people! I wasn’t here for a few weeks, just popped in for a few min, but needed a lot more time to read, but it payd! It gives me chizuk to see people in the same situation going up and down… and even making fun of it!

First, welcome to our 2 new members sweettooth and princess.

dx3, and princess, thanks for the nice poems, it indeed made me in a better mood!

dx3 and reb, your attitude is great! keep it up!hope it rubs of on all of us!

Now about me,I have type 1 for 27 years already, am on the accu-chech spiri tpomp. the cgm is not approved here yet, and I’m not willing to pay for it…

After my second baby, I gained a lot and after my third more, so I developed type 2 as well. There was a point where I took 150 units a day + glucophage and still was 300 the whole day…

So my dr and me decided to operate, because , as you all know, for us it’s harder to lose, so 2 years ago I did the gastric by-pass, lost 75 pounds + the type 2, and now I learned how to count carbs, before, it just didn’t pay the effort…

My a1c dropped ’till 6.3, and as you all know already, I got a green light for a pregnancy b”h! But, it’s almost a year, and … nothing!!!!The last few weeks, I just gave up! I can’t anymore! I know I’ll have to be sooooo strict for 9 months, and now it’s adding up 1 month after the other… with nothing!!!

I try keeping low, but no patience to count…

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for letting me vent to people who truly understand me…

tralala- thats what were here for! im sorry ur struggling! but you sound like you have so much determination in u from all that you went through AND OVERCAME!!!! you know how they say life is like a mountain? i like to think of it as more of a lot of hills when it comes to D. bolus hills and pump hills and shidduchim hills and carb counting hills and weight hills….. you get over one hill and there are still so many more! i sometimes feel like “sitting down” and stop climbing (we all feel that way sometimes no?) but we all have to remember that once we get over one hill, its worth it!!!! life is a climb but you get a great view from the top of all your hills!!!!

    #980499

Wow Cofeefan, that’s truly beautiful!! WOW!! Thank you for sharing!!

Tralala – thanks for the welcome! Oh boy, do i (we?!) know those feelings of hopelessness / giving up / … Come on here more and we can vent n share together. Since finding this forum my outlook is s-l-o-w-l-y trying to change from giving up completely (i’ve done it for too long 🙁 ) to “biting my lip” and at least somewhat trying to be strong!

Allsgr8’s “YOU CAN DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT!!” should keep us all going… Allsgr8?

Is it harder for a diabetic to lose weight?? I thought it’s the food that you’re taking insulin for that makes one gain weight not the insulin in itself? (i also know that the lack of insulin makes you lose weight but, hey, we mustn’t think like that!!?! But it’s so hard not too esp when you stand on the scale and see how much weight you’ve gained since taking insulin more normally!!)

Sweettooth – you amaze me with your knowledge and more, with your determination! Perhaps you should consider to start to work for Meisels!!!

tralala- welcome back! We missed you here! I can feel for you for what your’ going through it must be so hard.. I sometimes feel the same about shidduchim…u have to have good A1cs while in shidduchim cuz ill havta give them to the other party and then once I get engaged its gotta be strict control till the wedd and then the kids Be’ezras hashem….Yup its b’h a never ending cycle for good things!! Keep tight (pum inteded 🙂 and you’ll see that hashem will help you because your showing him that you want to help yourself too!!

    Coffee- beautiful perspective!!

forever1- ur right about basing my decision on the present thanks! i guess i shouldnt count the chickens before they hatch.

I dont have a deadline by which to make my decision ..prob not such a good thing cuz ill think about it forever now !!

cofee- besides the occlusions anything else negative about omni..anyting you miss that you had on the other pumps that you dont have with omni?
