If he always leaves CDs out of their boxes, and always leaves the lid off every container?

    If he’s a child, then he’s a child.

If he’s an adult, then he’s an adult.

    What was the question?

There are no bad people, only people who make bad choices, such as eating relish-flavored ice cream on an empty stomach, followed by three additional full courses, topped with blooming onions and tangerines.

He’s just suffering the side effects of having a Y chromosome. Other side effects include not closing closet doors and leaving the water bottle out of the fridge.

RebYidd, how do you know that such behavior (or similar) isn’t practiced by all or even most men?
Why don’t we conduct a survey right here on YW CR:

If you have a Y chromosome, how often do you leave containers uncapped or not return CDs to their jackets?
    1. never
    2. sometimes
    3. always
    4. plead the 5th

For those without a Y chromosome, if you are married to someone with a Y chromosome, how often does he leave containers uncapped or not return CDs to their jackets?
    1. never
    2. sometimes
    3. always
    4. don’t want to answer to preserve your shalom bayis

If all or most men behaved like this, no CD would survive.

    WTP,
In response to your survey, the answer is, much less often than my wife.

Also, I never thought I would agree to wholeheartedly with Joseph, but I think he is right. One of the side affects of having a Y chromosome is apparently to prevent a carrier from suffering the side affects of having an X chromosome.
The other side of the population, on the other hand, have a double dose…

Still does not prove anything- CDs survive because the women in their lives replace them.

And how exactly do they manage that?

    #1435694

Females may have 2 x chromosomes, but 1 is inactivated, so they do not actually express a double dose. Whether the Y chromosome side effects cancel out the X chromosome side effects, well that will depend on how severe he “suffers” from the Y effect.

RebYidd, I meant that when the female sees the CD lying around, she puts it back in the jacket, when she sees the container uncovered, she covers it. So it all works out in the end. The guys isn’t being bad, just enabling the woman to do what she is best at- creating and protecting.

Putting the lid back on doesn’t restore the contents. Putting the CD back doesn’t unscratch it.

Who still uses CDs? Most music today is downloaded to our phones or PDAs via electronic music files or stored in the cloud in our Amazon or Apple Music accounts , or equivalent. Much more convenient and considerably less prone to damage.

I’ve had this argument numerous times with the wife. It’s not that men are bad, it’s that men value efficiency more then women. And frankly we are taught from an early age that we are supposed to be efficient (that’s the root behind bitul Torah, lack of using time wisely)
So if my dining room table is covered with seforim or other things I anticipate needing, it’s not that I’m “messy” , I’m simply efficient. The wife values the look of cleanliness more then being efficient.
This is true by a lot of things. A great myth is that women are better communicators then men. Not true. They may talk more but that’s not communication. The definition of communication is being able to relay thoughts, and men are way more efficient at that.

Mensch1, there is a difference between leaving seforim out and leaving the lid off of a container. Being a whirlwind of chaos and destruction is not okay.

Joseph says : ” Most of us here listen to Jewish music, which is still sold mostly on CDs.”

Oopah…!! Surely you mean lots of “secular” genre music with “psukim from Tanach” verses. ( I’m talking the last 15 years )
Plenty of “big” name Jewish stars who stole rock music songs whole, and glued Jewish words to them.
What constitutes Jewish is itself another matter of discussion. Jewish Sefardi music differs from Ashkenazi, at the very least in scales. In any case, most contemporary Jewish music is boring, all sound the same, imitations of one from another, uninspiring . Did I mention uninspiring?
Now I’m copywriting Chubby Checker’s ‘The Twist” into Siman Tov & Mazel Tov.
Get a lawyer if I hear you singing or playing it the next 2nd dance.
    Anyway, “most” is guesswork.

… Or what I get a kick out of most, are the intros to chosson/kallah entrances. Rock, punk, mambos, etc… while everybody gets so busy waiting in line breathlessly. Jewish music my last week’s Matyas herring.
Years ago, dinner music was beautiful , yes, secular music and nobody complained.
These days is non-stop screaming ” Oy vey, bre ng shoyn Moshiach… Aha… Aha… Der shviger dantzt, the yenta zugt, der yiddel shpringt, oy, vay, oy vay. Or some “memre” someplace which doesn’t fit the music.

I was enjoying this thread until you trotted out the tired old diatribe about “what they call Jewish music today.”

I, for one, have no patience for the highbrows who seem to think that only their taste in music matters.

It’s no coincidence that Ashkenazi music sounds so similar to Eastern European music, while Sefardic music sounds so similar to Arabic music. The fact that you don’t enjoy contemporary singers or find their songs inspiring doesn’t mean that it’s any less Jewish than Regesh, Carlebach, Rabbi’s Sons, or even Yossel Rosenblatt. You can include every Chassidishe nigun from the Baal Shem Tov’s Nigun straight through Modzitz and next year’s Simchas Beis Hashoeiva from Belz in this list. (Honorable mention goes to the Chassidim, who managed to produce the Emperor’s New Album to match his clothes, by saying that “the Rebbe was Mikadeish the Nigun.”)
None of that was inherently “Jewish music” either, and I’m sure that in each generation, the old fuddy duddys complained about “what they call Jewish music today.”

In response to Joseph, nearly all Jewish music for the past ten years, and a lot of the earlier stuff, is available for digital download, and on subscription music apps.

Now back to our regular feature program…

Nobody is perfect, but the Y chromosome seems to give its carrier a more relaxed (dare I say, realistic) attitude about the failings of those around him.

Deliberately changing the topic of a thread to one that there are a lot of threads for already is not as bad as leaving a CD or DVD out of its case, but it is still not the right thing to do.

During my sheva brochos ( first marriage) I learned that my parents had not properly trained me in all manners of proper behavior. Apparently there are very specific ways of closing cereal boxes and even what surfaces car keys can touch. Apparently the X chromosome somehow creates a need for control on all matters considered trivial by Y chromosome carriers.

Was just listening to a Rabbi reisman tape on the middah of netzach. Loosely translated as victory over something and putting it in the past, getting over it. He applied it to shalom bayis by saying that when spouses come and complain to him and say “ I’ve been telling him:her for ten years ….” he responds “so, nu , do you expect change in the next ten years? Just accept it and move on”

    Mentsch1,
I’m sorry to hear that you had to go through that. I have a close friend who endured something similar. His first marriage lasted less than three months.
However, in his case (and perhaps in yours as well) the culprit was not the XX chromosomal condition, but a bad case of OCD (she hid it from him the whole time, and went off medication to try to conceive), coupled with an obscene form of premeditated abuse of trust [this last may well have been genetic – it is rather similar to what Lavan did…].

Your mother’s rather healthy training of her child(ren) seems to be evidence that not all ailments suffered by XX carriers are related to that particular chromosome.

In any case, I am happy that you were able to move on from a toxic situation.

This rule means that the Y chromosome often has to apologize for things that he knows he isn’t wrong about and has to live with things he knows he shouldn’t. Despite the X chromosome always believing they are right and rarely apologizing the Y chromosome somehow moves on.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t describing someone who is just messy. I would leave the CD case on the desk and the can of coffee on the counter. This person would remove the CD from the case and pack away the case with the other CD cases. They would remove the lid from the coffee and put it back in the cabinet without the lid.

I don’t think it’s a memory problem. He never forgets to pack something away, and apparently never forgets to lose the lid of a container.
