I got a tea in Starbucks, and I have the following observations.

    1. The tea costs more than the coffee. This is retarded; you should just buy a coffee, spill it on the counter, and ask for a free refill of tea.

    2. The tea price varies by the size. This is retarded; it is just a few ounces more water and a bit more paper, since it is the same tea bag. And refills are free anyway.

And you are all retarded for not thinking of this.

And you are retarded for not doing it. And for not thinking of it earlier. And for buying tea.

Please do not use the Loshon of retarded in such a sense. I learned this lesson when I said it to someone who has a close relative who is mentally retarded, and he was deeply offended by the use of such a word in a derogatory manner. Please be considerate of others in the use of such language. Thank you.

Considering the fact that I rarely drink coffee or tea, why would you say that I am retarded for not noticing this?

(Note: I’m not saying that I am not, in fact, retarded. I’m just curious how you came to this conclusion based on my lack of experience with the prices of coffee and tea).

Popa: Funny:) I never understood people who go to Dunkin and order tea. Why would you pay for tea when you can make it at home.

Coffee is a totally different thing. Dunkin donuts coffee is the best. Much, much better than starbucks. I find that starbucks coffee is very bitter.

    usa-tralian:

I have explained this numerous times. I am acquainted with numerous fools, idiots, dolts, stupidheads, morons, clowns, meshugayim, crazy people, slow people, nuts, and kookoos. And I don’t want to use their condition as a pejorative. That is why I only call people retards.

My illustrated brother calls people dolts, and you will need to ask him why.

And YOU guys are all retarded for responding so quickly. That was this Retard’s idea, and you, like retards are playing along.

Now, I for one, will NOT be part of this retardation. Which is why I didn’t respond, retard.

Mods, I think it’s time to change Bar Shattya’s subtitle to “Official Retard Of The CR”. What do you think?

Although I think popa is hysterical, and buying tea is stupid, I actually find this thread more offensive then the aforemention, now closed thread! You may not agree with usa-trailian, but it isn’t necessary to ‘shtoch’ him like that.

Hey, popa, is your brother the Illustrated Man that some dude wrote a book about?

    And listen to this:

A small coffee costs 1.50, and a small tea costs like 1.85.

So you imagine that the teabag costs them more than the coffee- probably since they don’t make it.

But then, a refill of coffee is $0.50, while a new tea bag is $0.30!

So how does that make sense?

My theory for this, is that people who drink tea are more likely to be the people who are sitting there all day, so they want to capture that value.

Then, the tea is actually cheaper which is why the refills are cheaper.

This thread is hurtful and offensive to many people.

I understand that someone would use the word retarded in an offensive way because they didn’t know any better. But now you do know better. A number of commenters have explained that it is offensive.

If anyone here claims to be shomer mitzvos, they wouldn’t partake in hurting other people – especially after they were made aware that their language was hurtful.

    Mods, please delete this thread.

A number of commenters have explained that it is offensive.

    Nobody has explained anything.

A number of commenter have asserted that it is offensive. There is an unsubtle difference.

If you wish to explain why it is offensive, you will need to define offensive as an objective term, and then show why this fits into that definition.

Then, if I agree with your definition, and agree with your evidence or logical argument that it fits into the definition, I will agree it is offensive.

Then, if you wish me to stop, you will have to define why you think it is improper to do things which are offensive (in the manner that you defined offensive).

If I agree with that, I will stop. Naturally.

Popa you should be ashamed of yourself. I never understood why your posts that label people retarded make it through here.(Which make up about 50% of your posts)

Anyone here can have a mentally retarded child, sibling, or other family member and can easily be hurt by this.

Popa, you may be funny, but you will have to give an account one day of every word you said/wrote.

I’m not sure I like being an esteemed Popa. I like saying funny things. I think this is funny.

    I will explain:

Funny means something which gives me joy in a certain unphysical way- not because something joyful has happened, but because the abstract thought itself gives me joy.

I am getting that joy when I call certain ideas “retarded” on this site. Thus, it is funny.

If you can convince me to feel guilt when I do it, and that guilt is more than the current joy I feel, then I will naturally stop.

Popa you should be ashamed of yourself.

I don’t want to. You may feel free to be ashamed of me, if you wish.

I never understood why your posts that label people retarded make it through here.

I label people retarded? Me? No, you are the one labeling people retarded: Anyone here can have a mentally retarded child, sibling, or other family member…

I would never call a person retarded for reasons of actual mental deficiency. I would feel guilt if I did.

(Guilt is a feeling of hurt in a very non physical way- not because something painful has happened, but because I have done something the memory of which causes me hurt. It usually manifests when I have done things which are against what we call “morals”. I will define “morals” a different time.)

Yup yup pops, people love finding excuses for their actions.

Agreed. And I might do so, if anyone were to put forward a reason for me to need to.

However, I don’t see that I have made any excuses yet here. I will make it explicit:

I make no excuses. I do not excuse this action in any way. I take full responsibility for it.

popa, did you take a look at that thread? I think there’s some helpful stuff in there.

I looked. It seems you intend for me to look at that thread and then feel comfortable admitting I am wrong and apologizing. Thank you for trying to be helpful. I decline.

Popa: It’s a historical fact that the term DD (developmentally disabled) was forcibly and even legally (I believe) invented and used to replace the term retarded because of the extent to which it had become a common derogatory expression. This occurred when you were a popa in diapers, though I admit I am not sure of your age, therefore you will not succeed in resurrecting it nor in enhancing your power of self expression or even in making your points well by continuing to use it the way you do, imho.

littleapple: If what you are saying is true, then the word “retarded” has lost its meaning in that context and is therefore no longer derogatory (in the way everyone here is protesting it is). So you’re actually justifying popa here.

You are only partly right, as I don’t believe one can erase completely the past meaning of the word kind of like in trademarks has xerox replaced copy? Hence people still take offense.

    #1198855

I don’t get it – popa is the one who overpaid for tea in Starbucks, and he’s the only one who’s not retarded? The logic behind that is developmentally disabled.

I have another example, but decided to just bump this thread.

So you know how on Windows 7, the taskbar on the bottom has an icon for each program, which makes it really easy to switch back and forth. But, it is retarded because if you have multiple windows open in the same program, it stacks them.

So, I know how to fix that:

    Right click the taskbar.

    Select Properties.

Select Taskbar Buttons, and select Combine only when taskbar is full.

I don’t know what you retards would do without me.

    How do you count 8?

    I count 6.

    ????? ????? = 10

    ????= 4

Unless maybe you could change the whole phrase? So replace ????? ??? ????? ????? with ????? ?????. That would equal 8.

First, it would be stealing to buy a cup of coffee and ask a refill of tea (assuming that the refill for tea is only for people who purchase tea). Second, offensive means a remark which people resent; therefore, the fact that people are offended by definition means your statement is offensive.

Second, offensive means a remark which people resent; therefore, the fact that people are offended by definition means your statement is offensive.

Hah. But all the people who were upset, were upset that I was going to offend someone else. Nobody wrote that they were upset because of themselves.
