Anyone have a recipe for faltche fish?
I’m sure many of us who have a minhag to not eat fish on Pesach (i.e. Vishnitz) would enjoy!

Yup. In Viznitz, for example, they don’t eat fish on Pesach. So they have “falshe fish” instead which is made with ground chicken. Delicious, btw.
March 29, 2012 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm #1070493a maminParticipantI have one at home its yummy!! I will post it later. Its mainly eggs, onions, salt, drop of pepper and a little sugar. Don’t forget the potato starch of course!

I might not be correct on the exact details, but it’s something to that effect. To show you the importance of “minhagim”, the Viznitzer Rebbe that just was niftar once said that he would eat fish on Pesach, but that he wants to continue this minhag out of respect for his ancestors.
March 29, 2012 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #1070495dash™ParticipantWhy doesn’t Vizhnitz eat fish on Pesach?
Because the Cheremosh River isn’t a good source for fish.
March 29, 2012 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #1070496lost in EuropeParticipantExactly! that’s why they had to transport it from another source.
March 30, 2012 2:54 am at 2:54 am #1070497oomisParticipantFalsche fish is literally false fish (gefilte style), made from chicken meatballs prepared and cooked as if they were gefilte fish. Grated onions, carrots, salt and pepper are mixed with ground chicken, and the balls are dropped into boiling water prepared exactly as you would for your gefilte fish. I have made this occasionally (not for Pesach, per se, because I eat fish on Pesach), and it really is delicious, and truly VERY close to gefilte fish when served cold (and with chrein).
March 30, 2012 12:24 pm at 12:24 pm #1070498cheftzeMemberSounds very tasty.
March 30, 2012 7:50 pm at 7:50 pm #1070499oomisParticipantIt IS. And when it is cold, you would think you were eating fish, so maybe it is NOT such a good idea, in case someone forgets he is fleishig now, after eating it… 🙁
April 3, 2015 12:30 am at 12:30 am #1070500JosephParticipantAny good recipes?
April 5, 2015 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm #1070501BarryLS1Participantoomis: I had some recently, for the first time in my life. It was actually good, but it made no sense to me to make chicken that taste like fish. A few people in here did give some good reasons.
