BP girl, they are far from perfect. Some look good, most look fake. They certainly didn’t study the scene in BP well enough. Their details just don’t add up.

Really? To my knowledge there are no young actors that came from a heimish family.

It was for a show called ‘Blue Bloods’. I saw an ad on Craigslist that ‘Blue Bloods’ is looking for real chassidim to shoot a scene. This Morning, my aunt who works a block away went to check it out confirmed that it was ‘Blue Bloods” crew by asking them which show or movie they are shooting. I saw pics from the set that she sent and the ‘chassidm’ on the set don’t look real…..

Well, the trash came out and, no surprise, it was a demagoguery of the Jewish people. Made a mockery of everything holy and portrayed religious Jews as some queer backwards violent bunch.

    It was not well done.

It was awful… not only did it give a terrible impression of chassidim, it didn’t even begin to make sense… chock full of errors.

Based on what you were able to read in the news about recent events coming out of Williamsburg why would they think Chassidim are good people. If you want them to change how they view Jews then Jews can’t break laws and do evil violent things that make it to the media. Its very easy to get a bad reputation and a lot of work to get a good one or to change peoples minds.

They are not interested in reporting positive things. The NYT posts a human interest article about Chassidim every so often to be yotze.

Also true. Positive is boring. You dont sell movie tickets with positive.

I saw the show online (it aired Shabbos).

I found a few details to be off. This was unlike the movie A Stranger Among Us with Melanie Griffith, where they employed the gaon and talmid hakham Rabbi Philip Harris Singer, zt”l, longtime rabbi of Orthodox Avenue O Jewish Center, as an adviser, resulting in a film where there was stunning accuracy.

Regarding portrayals of Orthodox Jews in the media: Lately, they like featuring OTD types; presenting moderate, humane, urbane, educated, cultured, torah-observant Modern Orthodox Jews defeats their purpose of portraying us unilaterally as backwards, primitive, fundamentalist bumpkins. The people they feature are generally from such backgrounds where college is rejected and women are poorly treated, which is certainly not true of my community.

Women are not poorly treated in any Orthodox community (as a whole). That is an anti-semitic canard. Indeed, the opposite is true.
