    1. Metallic wrapped Zazas. Save them to use as sukkah decorations.
    2. Sushi. It spoils too quickly to be given on Purim.
    3. Foie gras. Whether you agree or not, recipients are likely to object due to animal cruelty.
    4. Diet foods. Giving healthy food is fine, but giving diet food is just an insult.
    5. Open containers of liquid. Too messy.
    6. Roses. Same reason as sushi, plus, they’re hard to check for bugs.
    7. Realistic gummy insects. Eww.

item #2: i highly doubt it will spoil before the end of the day.

It isn’t necessarily spoiled to the point of having a bad smell or being dangerous, but it becomes not fresh.

    1. I like that idea.
    3. As long as you give 2 other things that they don’t object to, I’d think you’d be yotzei.
    4. So many skinny people eat/drink diet. The obese recipient should take it as a compliment!
    6. Give rose water instead. Easier to swallow.

I have never seen a skinny person eat diet food.

Of course you don’t give what doesn’t suit your kashrus standards.

    #1690627

Reb Yid, you certainly CAN give foods that don’t suit your kashrus standards IF you consider it only a CHUMRA (like some are machmir to only use ‘chassidish hechsher’ and won’t use OU but CAN give it to others who do. HOWVER, if you hold that a certain hechsher is OSSUR – like Triangle K (or if you hold Cholov Akum in USA is Ossur), then you CAN’T give this issur to someone, even if they do use it.

You shouldn’t give food that you wouldn’t eat, because it gives the impression that you’re just offloading your garbage onto the recipient.

There is a Yiddish saying: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The chassidish way it goes: one man’s trash is another man’s ungarbage. But us Litvish say: one man’s trash is another man’s shalach manos. I think in Chabad they say: one man’s Rebbe is another man’s Moshiach. But for all girls in shidduchim, we wish them to easily find their one man without going through too much garbage.

So…you are saying that a Vegan can’t give cold cuts, chicken or meat,,,or a recovering alcoholic can’t give you a 15year scotch “because it gives the impression that you’re just offloading your garbage onto the recipient”? Wow, I did not know that. As a Vegan I will make sure to send you only s celery and carrot stick.

Actually, I would appreciate some powdered freeze-dried apples.

I have the food handlers license from the new york city health dept. Raw fish can be left out of the fridge for up to 4 hours. After that it should be thrown out

If you give anything fridgable you should warn the recipient to put it in the fridge immediately, and never leave a package on someone’s doorstep.

That’s ridiculous. I detest olives, and don’t much care for hearts-of-palm. If I receive these in SHM I will definitely regift them immediately. Let someone else enjoy them, rather than have them sit unused in my pantry.

Chulent, herring and kugel in any form should be assured for MM. Fresh and dried fruits, nuts, cookies made from whole grains and dried fish jerky are the gifts de jour this year.
Chag sameach and a freilehce Purim.

Traditional dried fruits are not healthy. It is to regular fruit what leather is to meat.
