no, you missed the point. I would have been Mod25, since I was born the 25th of Iyar, since that was taken I became Mod39. Why 39? Since the 25th of Iyar is the 40th day of the Omer. And just like we don’t count Shavous as day 50, I thought it would be wise to stop at Mod39 and not become Mod40

ames: example: i have a friend in my class, a few lockers down actually, who has the same birthday as me. i seriously doubt you would ever be able to figure out which one of us is “aob” even if you narrowed it down that much.

ames or squeak or whoever: so now that we’ve come to the conclusion that lots of people share birthdays, how can it be such personal info & a danger to share? & more than your name or where you live?
ames: that’s true. so why are birthdays specifically not allowed? we know some people’s names, their ages, where they live, places they go, etc. so what’s the big secrecy with birthdays?

Really, the issue is with teenagers. Adults (generally) know what is safe to share and what is not. But teenagers rarely think things through before posting (if you don’t believe me, check a random teenager’s profile on a social site). So for the sake of protecting young people from damaging themselves (and as we know, the CR is/was dominated by teens) the rules are not to say who you are, or where you will be going, etc. A very good rule, and it’s a credit to the mods who enforce it well.
squeak: right, but they still go through. i was just wondering why they were so strict with birthdays if not as much with other pieces of information. (unless they are trying to moderate more strictly recently & this is where i’m seeing it.) and why are hebrew birthdays any different than english ones?
see the baal teshuva problems thread? there we have half his life story but G-d forbid we know his birthday (which he shares with who knows how many people)?? it seems pretty inconsistent.
I may be a teen and i may not care if people know who I am but the reason I dont care is because im not too worried that someone will try to murder me or something and even they did Im not to worried about them lol
I should hope no one that does know you would try to murder you either.
