I would appreciate any help on this.
I plan on moving to New Jersey after I’m married next year and would like to know where the Hasidic communities are. I know NY had plenty but I’d like to be in NJ with easy transportation to NY.
Lakewood..(There is a decent sized Chassidic communtiy there)
Lakewood has many many Chareidim. I think Union City has a small Klausenberg community.
I intended to post (pre-spell check correct) that Lakewood has a very very large number of Chasidim and Chasidish kehilos.
almost every kind of chassidus is already living in lakewood at diferent locations with their own shul & rebbe etc…
If you want easy transportation to NY you might want to look into the fledgling community of Jersey City. But you must have thick skin as it’s not the most favorable of neighborhoods.

Jakob: not every chasidus has its own Rebbe in Lakewood. They each have their own shul (maybe) but their Rebbe isn’t necessarily moving to Lakewood.
How about Chabad? There’s gotta be some Chabad communities in NJ.
Chabad shluchim are everywhere, but not necessarily their lay Chasidim.
I really don’t know enough about either one to compare, except as I mentioned Jersey City’s closer proximity to NY. Jersey City I believe is loosely Satmar based, while Union City is Klausenberg.
Jersey City is in its infancy, however with grand plans for the future which may or may not work out long term (they’re currently working on forming their own branch of Hatzolah).
Union City is more established, so you get what you see, but no plans I’m aware of for major expansion. The Zehviller Rebbe & Rosh Yeshiva there just passed away, so that might effect its future.I’d assume rents in both places are low, but you’d really need to do your own checking about everything.
The community in Jersey city is small, I dont know the size, but its nothing compared to Monsey/Rockland area or Lakewood. Its probably a small shtebel or 2
ZDad: you’re right. But she’s asking for a Chasidic community in NJ that’s not Lakewood (too far from NYC) which doesn’t exactly leave her with the greatest of options.
Additionally, neither Lakewood nor Monsey started out as the large communities they are now.
Jersey City is a large city in general and on the upswing and becoming gentrified because its close to Manhattan and a short Path train ride away from manhattan. It is becoming the next Williamsburg and I dont mean the chassidic part, but rather the Hipster part
Levanna, when you say you’re looking for a “Hasidic community”, can you please define for us what you mean by a Hasidic community?
Elizabeth, NJ is not known as being a chasidisheh kehilla although there are some shteibels.
Today’s New York Times website has a lengthy article about ‘Ultra Orthodox’ Jews leaving NYC for new homes. It features the 62 Hasidic families that have settled in Jersey City buying large homes in the $300,000 range. Worth reading as an asnwer to the OP’s question
A heimish/chassidish community was founded a few years ago in Greenfield, NJ.
Make that Greenville, and I guess that’s the Jersey City kehilla already mentioned.
How big is heimishe Greenville? And what kind of heimish?

Elizabeth, NJ is not a chassidish community. It’s under the leadership of HaRav Teitz shlita, who is as Litvish as they come!
A friend told me that a chassidish community will be starting soon in Linden, NJ – apparently they’re buying some land, and getting zoning approvals for a school.I never heard of Greenfeild, NJ so I google mapped it. Its about 60 miles south of Lakewood past Atlantic City. So about 175 miles from NYC

I’d like to point out that the pressure to sell houses which the article discusses is, I believe universal wherever real estate prices rise quickly. I live in Brooklyn and receive a phone call from some real estate agent (either not Jewish or secular) that ostensibly wants to buy my house on a regular basis, as well as random mailings.
It’s the name of the real estate game to some extent. Although I don’t know how many “hits” such cold-calling yields, the “investment” is worth it for some, as the potential commission the broker can earn is pretty high. B”H I don’t get door knocks – and I do understand their frustration – yet it’s a regular part of capitalism.
Greenville is just the neighborhood in Jersey City where the Chasidim are moving to. It isn’t a city.
