Hi! try to keep this brief but so overwhelmed. have found some good stuff in old coffee rooms (and Rabbi Google) but seems outdated. BH DD became a kallah erev YK. 1st time doing this…BT too, so need some advice. for low budget but nice affair, not cutting too many corners. couple want to start in EY the more we spend on wedding the less available for EY. Would only move it from LA where kallah is to NY where chasan is if i could save at least 7k. she is afraid of a takana wedding that would have “ew” flowers etc (I dotn need real centerpieces just real flowers for chupah and her) . any advice on:
    1) a place that does good deal like whole thing under 16k for 250-300 people (we dont want lakewood, will do Passaic or NY or monsey ) but NICE place, nice outside, good dance-floor. this would enable me to spend 2-3k extra on music this is her favorite part (APART FROM THE GUY)
    2) WHAT AWESOME SINGERS could I get and how do i find prices online. plz dont just post names, post prices and contact info!
    3) WHATS THE DEAL WITH CHASAN WATCHES how much do people spend when on low budget (but again not wanting to cut corners_ shadchan said its 1500- 1800 do u guys agree (that’s a month in Israel!)
    4) flowers photographer etc if its included in the “deal” how good are they If i cant get the whole package w own musician and keyboardist and somewhat decent photographer for 18k to 20 k we should stay in LA
    5) THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks again!!!!!!

A takana wedding in New York can save you quite a bundle compared to LA. And the flowers are beautiful.

I suppose a suggestion such as “sit down with the other side and see what each of you can afford and work it out from there” would be considered heresy…

You don’t need to spend $1500 on a watch.

There are a bunch of websites which sell watches at wholesale prices, and you can get a very respectable watch for $500-$800.

Or don’t get a watch at all. I didn’t get a watch in the yichud room and, according to most poskim, my marriage is still valid despite that.

DY: Do you have an example of a Choson watch available for $500?

If all that was being asked was about a valid marriage, they wouldn’t need a singer, flowers, or a wedding hall either.

Agav, the watch is typically given soon after the engagement, not in the yichud room.

Why does 1 night have to cost so much? We married off all our kids but we held prices down & did WHAT WE COULD. Each wedding was beautiful and no debt. We rented table decorations, had a 1-man band, no bar or wine on the table, chose the menu to give biggest bang for our buck, simple but tasty shmorg with passings, a very nice dessert table. Yes, we bought the chossen/kallah nice gifts but we went wholesale & budgeted.

And who wears watches these days? Even my husband doesn’t! He uses his phone & we have -gasp-! A CLOCK in the house. BTW, factor in cost of air fares & accommodations in NY.

They can come eat by me on Shabbos in Yerushalayim if it’ll save them some money for the first little bit.

DY- C’mon, a tradition collection RW is see as pretty cheap, let’s be honest (even though I happened to have chosen one). Standard is a cheaper B&M or longines.

Okay, you can get a Baume and Mercier Classima Executives Men’s Watch for about $700.

    I did give a range…

What about the cost of travel from the west to east coast? How many people are traveling? Where are they slerping, eating? That might offset some of your savings.

When you have the hall let us know the neighborhood, maybe we can help with places to stay.

You obviously missed (or ignored) the point.

I married off kids in takana halls in Brooklyn and Monsey. It was great. you don’t feel that you are second class,
the halls are beautiful, they cater to you beautifully. About music, in New York there is so much competition that there are players and singers that work together for a good price, and also just player that does a good job singing. I think that you should save your money for TACHLIS stuff. I respect you for thinking of sending the couple to Eretz Yisroel, but figure that it will cost a minimum of three thousand to thirty five hundred a month to live there, and that is besides the tickets flying there and later back and forth. Mazel Tov and Hatlocha. GET REAL
