Always wears a full faces of makeup, hair is always perfect and blown, barely or never seen in a pony-tail. Usually spends at least 1.5 hours in front of the mirror before she leaves the house. Probably does not wear denim. Always fashionable clothing. Very into how she looks to others.

That is someone who is in to their appearance, not high maintenance.

    #742437

high maintenance means she needs a lot to keep happy. Nothing to do with style or makeup

boredstiffbochur ive learned that people here dont like abbreviations and text lingo. but im glad that now i have another guy that posts like me

You should find out if they meant physically (as in likes alot of ‘stuff’) or emotional. If we define it and that is NOT what they meant it could be disasterous!! High maintenance,as I understand it, is someone who you need to always be ‘maintaining’. It’s emotional. You have to really watch your words, be careful to complement and not say anything with double meaning. Don’t steal their spotlight (oh you had a fever? Well I had the flu) because it puts them down. Their stories are long and you need to be empathizing with everything (beyond the ‘respectful listening’ point) because it is usually about how they either saved the day or were victimized. It’s a tiring life and a lot of energy. But I don’t think someone would have meant that if they were just rattling off a descriptive word. That’s why people need to speak more carefully and you shouldn’t assume my definition is what they meant.

It means you better have more than one credit card if you want to keep up with her lifestyle. Oh I meant you better have more than one credit card and be prepared to pay the bills. Yeah, thats what I meant.

    Hudi-not necessarily.

Its someone who wants and has the ‘finer things in life.’

(Now everyone don’t blow up at me saying “a BMW is not something fine its gashmiyus, ect.)

i think it means someone is emotionally fragile and needs constant support

    #742444

The Goq-thats not at all what it means. Its material objects. Designer clothes, expensive cars, nice jewelery, resteraunts….

Someone materialistic, who has an appreciation for money because it makes them feel like something. Usually someone who is very insecure.

Someone who does most but not neccesarily all the below:

Shops in all the high end stores on Fifth Avenue for clothing, Shops with her decorator in the D&D Building for home decor, as opposed to places where she can get discounted stuff,

    Has to take expensive vacations,

    Lives in elegant home$,

Competitive with other high maintenance people.

Limits social contact to those in the same socio-economic class.

He/she is, usually, but not at all limited to, those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths or nouveau riche. Very $tatus conscious. Not neccessarily happy most of the time, because of the constant climb.

Definition 1: Requiring a lot of attention. When describing a person, high-maintenance usually means that the individual is emotionally needy or prone to over-dramatizing a situation to gain attention

definition 2:A person who has expensive taste (re. clothing, restaurants, etc.).

This person is never comfortable because he/she is constantly concerned about his/her appearance.

This person feels they are better than most people and usually judge others based on outward appearances.

    Someone who dresses non-tznius.

From my experience, tznius is a separate issue. Its possible to have both, but one doesn’t necessarily mean the other.

i agree with kapusta…there are many frummies who are high maintenance…and speaking of which, there are guys who are likewise as well. i personally like to have nice stuff but i would never impose that want for something nice on somebody else.

Anyone who needs to spend a lot of time and money on him or herself (usually it refers to the girls, though), they have expen sive tastes, and are never satisfied. they cabn also be extremely emotionally difficult people to deal with. I would never want as child of mine to marry one.

    #742453

Most things are true but not all. I guess everyone has their own opinion of high maintenance.

“another guy” – Hey, what happened to your insisting that you’re a grandma??? You gotta be consistent if u lie!

    #742455

    BS”D

Needs to have the antivirus, spyware remover and disk defragmenter run more than once a day is the definition of high maintenance for me. After a few weeks of that treatment, I try saving all the data and reinstalling the operating system. If that doesn’t work, out she goes, the useless old bag…………..:)))!
