I have noticed people going in and out of the cleaners on Chol Hamoed Succos and this morning I noticed a man insisting to pick up his clothes on chol Hamoed – What are the conditions is this permissible?

Nowadays where basically everyone has multiple Shabbos shirts I can hear the Sevara that it’s fine. It would take decent-sized shoulders to say, though.

Rav Moshe Feinstein Zt’l forbids sending clothes to be dry cleaned even if one needs the clothes for the Moed. He believes that this is an activity of Maaseh Uman that is forbidden on Chol Hamoed even Letzorech.

The question here is about dropping off before yomtov (possibly even prepaying) and just picking up on chol hamoed. I don’t see why this should be such a clear no. If the person prepays, and the cleaners clean it before yom tov, the only issue would be potentially maras ayin, no? If you’re wondering why they wouldn’t want to pick it up before yom tov, maybe they just don’t have time to stop by in the busy pre-Pesach season.
