Is someone allowed to type on Chol Hamoed? (Like to post on COffee Room) Is there an inyan to be machmir?
April 24, 2019 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm #1719182JosephParticipantNo, not supposed to. Yes, there’s an inyan to be machmir.
April 24, 2019 11:17 pm at 11:17 pm #1719199So when I open a new thread, I am not just being maykil on myself, but causing others to be maykil by replying. Does that make me a kal u’ mkalkel acheirim?
April 25, 2019 2:13 am at 2:13 am #1719220MilhouseParticipantType with a shinuy. Hunt and peck instead of touch typing.
April 25, 2019 2:16 am at 2:16 am #1719235Is posting on the Coffee Room a דבר האבוד? That is muttar on Chol HaMoed.
April 25, 2019 12:12 pm at 12:12 pm #1719387Reb EliezerParticipantTyping on a computer is not permanent , whereas typewriter might be different. Printing from a computer might not be a melochoh for chol hamoad just entering a command. The issur of chol hamoad is exertion.
April 25, 2019 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm #1719410JosephParticipantTyping on a computer followed by printing it out is no different than using a typewriter.
April 25, 2019 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1719426Reb EliezerParticipantJoseph, proof? Chal Hamoad a tircha or exertion is assur and must have permanence. Writing on a computer
display has no permanence. Printing by entering a command involves no tircha and is not a direct malocho happening automatically, whereas typing on a typewriter has permanence and there is tircha involved.April 25, 2019 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #1719446JosephParticipantlaskern: Are you saying that using a word processor is like a computer and not like a typewriter?
April 25, 2019 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #1719449PhilParticipantlaskern,
Don’t listen to Joseph, he’s making up fake halacha again. Isn’t it interesting that he’s always machmir? Ask your LOR instead and you’ll see that Joseph is wrong as usual.
April 25, 2019 6:00 pm at 6:00 pm #1719489Reb EliezerParticipantSee Beer Moshe 7,39 and 93 writing on a disk is automatic. On Chal Moad a pesik reshe is not assur and the writing is a code. Writing on a monitor display has no permanence.
April 25, 2019 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #1719497JosephParticipantlaskern: You didn’t answer the point about using a word processor. Is it like a computer or like a typewriter, according to your view?
April 28, 2019 8:42 am at 8:42 am #1719761Reb EliezerParticipantIt’s a computer. See the RMA SA O’CH 545,7 writing must be permanent.
April 28, 2019 8:52 am at 8:52 am #1719779JosephParticipantA word processor automatically prints out the document as soon as you’re done typing the entire document.
April 28, 2019 9:44 am at 9:44 am #1719787Reb EliezerParticipantI talk about a software that is used on a computer.
April 28, 2019 11:32 am at 11:32 am #1719888JosephParticipantI’m asking you about a hardware word processor.
April 28, 2019 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #1719987Reb EliezerParticipantThat would be like a typewriter as described by you.
