I read a lot about the NY chaplain job, and it sounded quite interesting. I just had a few questions, which I hope someone can help me with.

    1. What exactly is the role of a “Jewish Chaplain”?

    2. Do I have to deal with persons out of our community?

    3. Will one be able to remain in his learning in kollel?

You need to be a graduate of a school like RIETS and you need to have college to take CPE to become a chaplain. A kollel guy cannot become a chaplain under most circumstances, unless he has the academic requirements to become board certified.

RIETS is no more qualified than BMG or any Yeshiva that issues a BTL.

A degree in RIETS is not just Halacha, but in social work as well

to be a Chaplin, you need to know more than just halacha, you have to be a social worker as well

And you have to deal with all kinds of jews, not just frum ones and dealing with some of them at a distressed point in their life

RIETS doesn’t do social work. That is other divisions of the YU, which is more than just RIETS.

There is social work training if you get Smicha from YU. To get the full chaplency you probably need the smicha AND a MSW
