    Couple of questions…

Why do Sephardim typically record songs and the like using Adon-i while Ahskenazim and Chassidim say Hashem?

Isn’t it rude to refer to G-d as Hashem or Adoshem as if that is His name, or destort His names into non-words like Keil nd Elokeinu?

Why do we say Keil but EloKainu? Shouldn’t it be Keilohainu?

Serious questions from a guy who has too much time to contemplate things like this.

I don’t know all the answers, but we probably don’t say Keiloheinu because that actually means “like our God” (ke-Eloheinu).

    Very interesting.

I don’t see why Hashem would be rude. Just like “hamelech” connotes reverence, The King, so too “The name”. Of course, that assumes you understand that names of Hashem are not just ways of referring to Him….

Logician: If your name was Sam and I referred to you as Name or better yet, Gam, you wouldn’t consider it rude?

Also, we don’t speak the name of foreign gods. Shouldn’t we then be referring to Hashem with Adnus when talking about him?

Now it seems Hashem has become a holy name with people writing it H-shem. Isn’t that going a bit too far?

Lastly, does anyone know the shittot of the Sephardim being able to record songs using the Shem Adnus or ours not being allowed to?

Melech is a title. The Name is not.

Not rude it shows tremendous respect and awe, were too scared and awed to even say His name randomly whenever we feel like it, its just too special. I guess like u call a king his highness, Hashem is much more than a regular king, we cant even say that.

Well, this is why I wrote that you have to understand the concept of His names… just too much for this forum, but on one foot: His name is His way of interacting with this world, He created the world with His name, the Ramban explains that the whole Torah can be rearranged to be read as Sheimos. When we say “The Name”, we are referring to “The aspect of His direction of the world he is currently revealing to us”…… I’m sure that’s not too clear, but…
