Since MBD has decided to end his singing career, who do you think will come on as the next king of Jewish music?
November 21, 2011 3:39 am at 3:39 am #828809midwesternerParticipantHe hasn’t ended his singing career, just his recording career. And in case you haven’t noticed, many others have drastically slowed down as well. Very hard to make money on a CD in today’s electronic file sharing world.
November 21, 2011 4:18 am at 4:18 am #828810WIYMemberMAD will always be known as the king. However I think Shwekey and Fried as well as Ohad are all great.

(He already is the king of Jewish music – those who know his music would know that) ; )

November 21, 2011 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #828813MeinMeinungMemberThe King of Jewish Music is a father singing zemiros at the shabbos table instilling warmth and love for Hashem into everyone around.

November 21, 2011 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #828815soliekMemberi dont like MM’s answer because it completely undercuts the intended and obvious meaning of the question
November 21, 2011 6:45 pm at 6:45 pm #828816BTGuyParticipantHi soliek. Actually, in many ways, MM’s answer is a great footnote to the question.

November 21, 2011 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #828818oheiv sholomParticipantAbie Rotenberg is the true king
November 21, 2011 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm #828819aries2756ParticipantWhoever has a favorite singer, to them that singer is the King of Jewish Music. I believe most Jewish singers feel that MBD is the KING. He really was the one who started out solo in a new era of Jewish Music and inspired all the others to follow suit. All the other Jewish records at the time were all groups.
As far as retiring from recording, there is always “come backs” so we will all just have to wait and see.
November 21, 2011 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #828820BTGuyParticipantBlack Hattitude!!!
November 21, 2011 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #828821BaalHaboozeParticipantAvraham Fried is as good today as he was 20-30 years ago. He is, in my books, right in line with MBD and I always enjoyed his albums + performances. IMHO If anyone deserves a nomination for next King of Jewish music, it’s him.
