I am sorry to raise this issue — video games help me with my depression. Unfortunately many modern games are very unkosher.

Are games such as minesweeper and Spider Solitaire kosher?

Yeah there’s nothing wrong with either of them

I would say many sports game are kosher. Try NHL or FIFA, both excellent.

Thank you. I need some kosher entertainment — to deal with my depression.

Minecraft! It’s very relaxing to build stuff on there, I’ve built castles, underground rooms, etc. Just use Creative mode and don’t spawn any pigs.

Try sport games. They’re pretty kosher.

Besides sport games, you can try simulators and management games.

    Some good ones are:

    -Capitalism II (very addictive!)

-Sim City 4 deluxe (SC 2013 is pretty bad, don’t buy it).

    -X-Plane 10

@Lost1970 – Tetris is a lot of fun. The mobile app is a watered down version of the game that’s dull by comparison, so I wouldn’t recommend that at all. I highly recommend playing the original on an emulator so you can play it at home as opposed to an arcade.

I know there were some Jewish computer games made based on Sefer Shoftim, but I don’t know how many were made. Can’t seem to find them anymore, but they were decent point and click games, if I remember.

Also, do you like Roller Coaster Tycoon?

Does it have to be purely non-violent? Like, not even smashing robots?

    • Thomas Was Alone is a great game. It has a very “artsy” style that may take a bit getting used to.
    • Braid is one of my favorites. You play a man trying to get from point A to point B and avoiding all sorts of dangerous things. But the cool part is that you have to play with time by rewinding it, making it go slower or go faster to pass most of the puzzles.
    • Some guy above mentioned Minecraft which is definitally falling in the kosher category (squids and pigs non-withstanding)
    • Then there’s a lot of great free games out there. One of the best is something called Open TTD where you have to manage a transportation empire

    Tell me what you think.
