Goldie, as to the first: CYLOR. Some factors include if you’re going to run out, if not washing will make the items moldy or cause someone to suffer from the smells, if there are kids who have accidents or get sick, etc.

Just keep sorting the laundry every day to make the post 9 days clean up easier (and iy”H may we get to do laundry much sooner!).

As to the second, can’t help you, but curious, are you makpid to eat meat every rosh chodesh? I would guess that if it were allowed, you can be sure everyone would eat, even if they weren’t machshiv r”ch so every month.

Goldie, the answer to your questions is the same as it would be to any question that starts, “Why do we do this on such and such a day, but not on a differnet type of day?”

Rosh Chodesh Av is a different Rosh Chodesh status from the others. Why are we not mevareich the chodesh on Tishrei – because Rosh Hashana has a status beyond merely being another chodesh. So does Av. It is a time of mourning for the Beish Hamikdash, and we therefore treat that specific R”C with a different status than another one.

When a halacha for one day is different than for another one, the answer is always, that this specific instance calls for a different halacha.

As to the laundry, you should rtry to always have enough stuff set aside so you don’t need to do laundry during this time. But if you have small children whose clothing gets dirty, it can be washed. You should ask your rov about the other things.

Hate to burst your ashkenazic bubble…

Sefardic Jews DO honor Rosh Hodesh by eating meat…and we don’t do laundry during ???? ??? ?? – which this year is a long stretch!

    ??? ???? ????? ????? ????? ????

Littleeema, I actually had recently learned that sefardic minhag. There are times that the meat and laundry do not become an issue for you for more than a couple of days, due to the way Tisha B’Av comes out. For Ashkenazim it’s ALWAYS a long stretch.

Actually oomis, sefardim don’t eat meat on the nine days. As far as meat is concerned on Rosh Chodesh Av, there are differing opinions. For the week that the 9th of Av falls on, it just bathing and laundry that are not allowed.

this year cause tisha b’av is on a Thursday, laundry is allowed on Thursday night after the fast! rather then waiting till friday after chatzos to was the laundry! whether or not it is permitted to wash laundry that will not be used for shobbos is a matter of dispute: some permit it outright, while others only allow adding such laundry to the load that is being used for shobbos!

ames: see Mishpacha family first section, this is all there + more halachos on this topic!

Not sure why going to camp would be a hetter to do laundry. If you have no clean clothes, you can probably wash what you need, but confirm with your Rav.

I thought the ashkenazic bubble comment was funny. But I guess it depends on how you read it.

We had to do laundry today because of a few mishaps and the fact that I don’t have much maternity clothing. I’ll pretend to be sephardic today 🙂

Goldie, never heard of that. I always thought laundry meant laundry. meaning clothes, towels, linen and any other cloth items you put in the wash. I guess you should ask your rov if your not sure.

“i always thought laundry meant on clothes meaning i could wash towels sheets and other stuff like that”

maran (shulkhan arukh) says you can wash “flat” like towels etc (even though you shouldnt change the beds (except for in case of need- dirty…). Ashkenazic minhag is not to do any laundry (although my sister in law sorts it all as she brings it to the basement…)
