Are out of towners welcome? The camp is owned by Chicago Aguda, and is located in Southwest Indiana! The closest city is Indianapolis. Second is South Bend. Third is St. Louis. Fourth is Chicago. The director was a rebbetzin in South Bend for more than 20 years, who only recently relocated to Lakewood. That’s pretty much out of town in my book!

I have sent three daughters there for multiple years. They absolutely love every minute of it! Although if you’re first applying now, it is likely to be a waste of time.

if you are referring to Camp Bnos Maarava run by Mrs. Gettinger then I can tell you that the girls are far from being snobbish. I have sent my daughters since the camp opened and they all have had only positive experiences.

I went to Maarava and found it to be a very exciting and well put together camp. I come from a small town so I met lots of diffrent people! The nurse changes every year but usually they are pretty nice and will help with what you need!

When I was a kid alot of y friends went there and loved it. Although I think it has changed since then. But I think glyph the better it gets better and better each year. When we move to Chicago I am sending my kids there. But if we move to NY I wouldn’t it’s more suited to the outta town communities, although it does have a number of nyers!!!

a number of nyers? them and njers ar about a qaurter of the campthey would probably rule if it wasnt orignanly ment as a chicago camp! Besides if your kids are really from out of town they would prob fit in!

I am afraid that there is a misconception here. Marva is a 9 week israeli boot camp experience that is simply AWSOME. Participants are Jewish and are between the ages of 18 and 29. Boys as well as girls are welcome to sign up for the most AWSOME experience you will ever receive which includes getting your own m16 and guard duty at 2 am etc. For more details go to wikipedia or the Jewish Agency.

Ehm Marvafan….. I kind of think you’re looking for a different type of forum, something like http://www.welovekahane.com ? (mods – that site doesn’t exist)

You’re obviously just here to provocate, please stop doing that.

Why? I am an israeli combat soldier and I read ywn coffee room occasionally. I am actually writing this while on shemira on a small hilltop community in ????. And I don’t just have a M16; I have an M4 with a trijicon sight. The truth is that for many american teenagers who are just not cutting it in yeshiva, ??? can be an incredible place of growth while helping keep jews safe. Americans can serve in almost all combat units with a commitment of a year 2 months without having to make aliya (???).

yeshivaguy1- First i want to say thank you for all you do (if that is what you do,srry you can really never tell on these things ) and what i ment was we arent talkein about a place for military combat training bootcamp, we are talking about MAARAVA, it is a sleepaway camp run by agudah midwest for teenage girls!!!!!!

I myself truely believe in tzhahel and what it stands for!!! I am not chalila saying no to the subject i am saying this is not the forum about it !!!!!!

p.s. i do know people serving there now and people like that who sacrifice are always on our minds!!!

Yeah I knew what it was. I was just responding to the negative attitude and misconception mentioned earlier that participation in ??? is something not relevant to the frum community. I’ve seen fro other posts that The Chassidishe Gatesheader has lived in israel. I have begun to resent the snide attitude I get from many chareidim here where they like to conveniently forget the millions of arabs who would love to slaughter them if given the chance, and instead go and rant about the terrible army. Maybe if they would come on patrol in certain areas they might change their mindset a litle. I actually am in the army and if you know anyone there from ??”? who joined then I most probably know them too. We chayalim bodedim pretty much all know each other as we meet at different lone soldier events (friday night meals, thanksgiving dinner etc.) and generally hand out together.

well on behalf of everyone(those who would and wouldent admit it) for doing what you are! I do not live in Israel but have many dear freinds and family who do and i have been there a few times and I knew i am frighten Sometimes there are just certain looks from some arabs that make you want to run, its not a fairytale its real life and its scary. As for the negative commetns, they are from people who are to scared to beleive in anything. they bad mouth what they are to afraid to learn about!!!

Wow since i explained that Marva is a military program for tourists no one has mentioned that waste of time school that trains one to think that America can replace the Jewish ethnic homeland. Both the israeli military and the so called yeshivot/bait yakov progroms teach a person how to dress and speak and act. The difference however between these two marva programs however is one teaches how to live speak and act like Avrohom and King Dovid and all the other leaders of the tanach and the other teaches how to act like a goy in the land of the goyim.

Congratulations on being able to control your emotions and do what G-d wants. For it is not the clothes and the right use of the right jargon that makes a person religious but rather her or his actions.

marvafan- thank you very much for that , and about the diffrent education.. I totally agree with you, one is how to live and one is how to GO and live. But you really cant have only one you really need both! What is the point in just learning if noone to show and teach, adn what is the point in defending if you have nothing to defend!!!

You seem like a nice girl and I feel bad putting you on the spot like this. Just a quick question to see if you put your money where your mouth is. If a guy was suggested for you that shared all your values, had good middos, yiras shamayim, kovea ittim (or learning full time if that’s your thing) pretty much everything matched except that he had been in the israeli army. Would you go out with him?

yeshivaguy1- no prob, you know if i felt it was from ‘H , and thought about it for a while, i am not so sure it would make a diffrence! I mean its like saying would you not go out with someone if they have 5 sibings? It is apart of who they are, and if as far as i can see that everything else macthes then it isnt a added thing, it helped make them who he became! Do you get what i am saying?

I truly regret coming across CGs post of today and of two days ago. He and his dogma damage and eat away at my Ahavas Yisroel. It will take a long vacation from this alternative bais medrash to repair, and it is no surprise to me that The Land “spat him out”.

The parties over, we’re going from shemira back to base for an extremely tough month and a half of training, exercises, and courses. Thanks for that nice response, hopefully more people will think like you (although I am cynical enough to know that isn’t the case). This will probably be my last post in a while.

yeshivaguy1- You know i think there are more people behind it but they are to afraid to speak out! Maybe the saying” actions speak louder then words” work for them, maybe they give money…. anyway, much hatzlacha in all you do, remember we are always behind you, and if you need support! We are all brothers and sisters, both in life and for the sanctity of ‘H name!

    Hello

My name is Ari I learned in Maarava last year and i can tell that it was the best thing I did in my entire life if you want more information please contact me.

getting this back on track… i went to maarava for 6 years, though not this past… what can i say? i come from chicago, so my views on things are coming from an out of town perspective…

it’s an awesome place! mrs. gettinger and mrs. eisgrau are amazing and are really there for every camper AND staff member. the girls-it has changed a bit over the years imho, gotten a bit more “in towny” though it’s still more “out of towny” (anyone else mixed up yet?) than most places (def not like sternberg though! but that’s more that they’re diff types of places, can’t compare) the “snobbishness” of hte girls depends on your age group, though i can’t say i ever experienced that. everyone feels welcome, and the activities are amazing! though there are “special days” throughout the summer, in truth, every day in maarava is special! (corny, but it’s true!) any specifics that you’d like to ask?

Ma’arava is THE BEST CAMP EVER! I have been going for 4 years, and I made some really amazing friends who keep in touch all year. The staff is warm and amazing. The program is super fun! It is a very out of town camp, generally with around 1 bunk (20 girls) out of 7 bunks per age group being in towners (Lakewood/New York). While the in towners are generally considered to be snobby, one of my best friends from Ma’arava is a Lakewooder and she is not snobby AT ALL!!!!

We started our affilliation with camp bod maraava in either its first or second year with our oldest daughter and continued for another 12 years with our younger daughters. Girls then we’re nit snobbish and my daughters made friends from all over the US. Then the older campers were rotated up to staff.my youngest daughter looked forward to the long bus ride from Passaic to Marshall Indiana to catch up with the girls she didn’t see for a yesr. The group meeting in the parking lot in Passaic showed the achdus of these girls. We were extremely happy with our decision to send to bond maarava.
