What is the best MM theme you have ever seen?

    Best. Theme. Ever.

Mother and kids (father absent) dressed up in rags and barefoot. Giving out airline meals.

“Father did insider trading and is in jail” theme.

We gave out hamantashen and wine. The theme was “Purim”.

I bought out all the valentine left overs and had a v’ahavta l’rei-echa kamocha theme.

I told my kids our theme this year is “leave me alone, I’m making a bar mitzvah”

Why do we need themes? It’s cute but many people cannot afford to do it or don’t have time but NEED to because everyone else is…

This year, we want to give out a cracker and a sour belt on a paper plate. The theme is, “flat out of ideas”.

    I’m enjoying the ideas.

I’m sending a bag of Ringers and an IV. The theme is “got taken to the hospital and almost died because I drank irresponsibly”

Last year, we sent out post cards that said, “in lieu of mishloach manos, here’s a piece of paper”.

If I could figure out how, I’d be doing coconut cake “fish fingers” and custard. The only problem is, the only “custard” I can imagine would last sitting in a gift bag unrefrigerated for some time as I prepare at least a day in advance are those awful vanilla pudding cups that the stores don’t even bother putting on a refrigerated shelf.

    Why do we need themes?

We don’t. We also don’t need messageboards — but that doesn’t mean we can’t have them if we want them.

It’s cute but many people cannot afford to do it or don’t have time but NEED to because everyone else is…

That’s ridiculous. We like to do themes, but, there are some years when for either financial or logistical reasons, we can’t do it. So far, no one has ostracized us for not doing a theme in certain years. If you can’t/don’t want to do it, then don’t — but that shouldn’t be a reason why people who can and want to shouldn’t be able to do it.

Under water. A waterproof bag of food submerged in a 4-foot tall tub.

I know I read this as a joke somewhere, but last year I actually received a basket with a card that said, “In lieu of a donation to Tomchei Shabbos, we are sending you these manos”. It was funny, but THIS year the theme needs to be to send cards to Tomchei Shabbos that say, “In lieu of a donation, mishloach manos have been sent to tbe following individuals” so that they can shep nachas and know they were thought of.

If this catches on, I can see a similar theme for small business saturday.

Who says themed mishloach manos have to be complicated and expensive?

I dont think themes are more expensive. In fact it helps me narrow down from thousands of food products what to give.

I don’t do themes. My kids will be dressed up the same, but I am doing liquor and biscuits, in a nice package. Best part? It can be made in advance!
