    Operation Thunderstorm

After thoroughly going through all the Halachos of lightning and thunder, there seems to be a big misconception in this area. I would like to put down the guidelines as they are in the Mishna Berurah (227).

[Aruch HaShulchan]. In fact, if it is in the middle of a storm or cold weather, one is allowed to assume that it is storm lightning and not heat lightning, and can immediately make an Oseh Maseh Breishis.

If one already began reciting the Oseh, and heard thunder in the middle, he may make Shekocho Ugvuroso when he finishes the Brocha (if it’s still Toch Kedei Dibbur of the thunder). (Mitzva Lefarseim)

PArdon my ignorance, but what is the difference between the two types of lightning? You don’t make a bracha on ANY lightning you might see for the first time that day?

There’s a very good book called Halachiclly Speaking, it’s hard to find Halachos for everyday living. It’s like those things you hear about but aren’t sure if they’re true.

What’s the difference between the two types of lightning? You don’t make a Brocho during a lightning storm on lightning?

another not well known halacha i just saw in Rav Yisroel Belsky’s Sheilos uteshuvos (shulchan halevi) is shifshuf. after you wash for netilas yadayim youre supposed to rub youre hands together in case u missed a spot

According to the S”A (56:1), one should answer Kaddish in a “loud voice”, but the M”B (56:5) cautions against saying it so loudly as to cause others to ridicule him.

At the minyan I daven, one fellow just belts out YS”R the way some folks holler when at sporting events (lehavdil). It’s quite uncomfortable to hear – for me, at least – and makes it difficult to concentrate.

Since I’m fairly certain this person feels he’s following the S”A, I say nothing. Perhaps he’s right, since the people at that minyan are mentshlach and don’t ridicule those who behave differently. Given that, technically, I guess he’s in compliance with the M.B., too!

One mistake that I was told is that some people do not realize they are not supposed to talk during kaddish. When hearing kaddish, one is supposed to stop, answer amein and say the yehei shmei rabba… at the appropriate time. Someone told me that there is a place somewhere in E”Y that has carved into stone or something that one who talks while kaddish is being said, has lost his chelek in Olam Haba, because kaddish is the ultimate affirmation of gedulas Hashem, and to talk at that time is kivyachol like spitting in His Face. I don’t know if any of this is halacha, but it really makes sense that it is an abomibale lack of derech eretz for hashem to talk during this or any part of davening.

the netilas yadayim point reminds me of something i only just saw someone doing- are you supposed to wash your hands netilas yadayim after you get dressed in the morning? cuz i never even heard of that…

Do you mean in addition to washing right when you wake up? As far as I know, you just need to wash/put some water on your hands after getting dressed. Similar to when you touch your hair, feet etc.

as I mentioned above- I don’t think you need to wash your hands 6 times- just a rinse like after you touch your foot

ahhhh thank you…see, i didnt even know that there was an inyan to wash/wet your hands even after just touching your foot…live and learn.

Belev- any time your hands become tumei (scratch your head, touch your shoe, touch a part of your body that is supposed to be covered etc.) you are supposed to either rinse your hands or rub them on raw wood (wood absorbs).

Washing six times comes after showering, cutting your nails, washing al netilas yodoiyim, when you wake up, after using the bathroom etc.

There are people that are makpid to wash 6 times for other things- you need to ask your father/husband what you hold. (Some people also wash 8 times vs. 6)

I hope I am advising correctly- this is what I learned and what I hold. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong

    i never heard that

but i did hear that one that belittles Kaddish by talking during it, when his children say it for him it will not be effective

Our morah d’asra who retired in recent years, taught us that. When he was in E”Y he saw the rock or plaque on which it was inscribed, and he gave a drosha on it when he came back. He said this in no uncertain terms, and he is not an extremist in any way. he just wanted to tell us about whst he had seen regarding one’s being m’zalzeil on the Kaddish, by talking when it is said by someone, or in the chazaras hashatz. The line that he read actually said it was an anti-bracha on the person who is doing the talking, and takes his Olam Haba away. I don’t talk during davening so it is not an issue for me, but it certainly is a problem in the shul, in general.

areivim – it’s not 8 times, but 6 + 2. That may seem like 8 but there is a distinction. Wash each hand 3 times to remove the tumah. Some people hold that after that you should rinse each hand again to wash away the water that removed the tumah. Hence, there are 2 extra washes.

The 6+2 is only minhag ha’gra, and many hold that washing 6 times is perfectly in accordance with halacha.

Something you should ask your Rav:

When we send a child to shop for eating utensils how do we know that it was properly Toveled since Halchacilly a pre bar/bas mitzvah is not credible

    ?”? ??”? ??’ ?? ??”? ??? ??????? ??? ?? ????? ????. ??? ??? ?? ???? ???? ????, ??? ?????

    ??”? ???? ?? ??? ????? ???? ?????? ?? ????? ????.

Anyone may tovel keilim, including a small child or a gentile, however, a Jewish adult must be present to verify that it took place. The recitation of a brocha can only be done if a Jew does the immersion. Therefore, if many utensils are to be immersed with the help of a child or a gentile, the owner should first immerse a few vessels with a brocha and then the child/gentile can take over By Rabbi Moshe Heinemann http://www.star-k.org/cons-appr-tvilaskelim.htm

Regarding toiveling keilim. Anyone ever see people who were makpid to be toivel the keli/im AFTER they paid for it specifically and not allow the store to toivel the keilim for you while you wait on line to pay for it? Reason I ask is, only klei seuda require tevila. AFTER you purchase the kli, it becomes yours and it becomes a kli seuda. prior to purchase, it belongs to the shopkeeper and does not require tevila. I personally received a psak that I should be sure kli was toiveled after I purchased it. Did anyone else ever hear of this?

Checking up on your RAV? Why don’t you ask him directly for Mekoros?

Yes That is the buzz, Even though I haven’t yet heard from a ???? ????? I have seen a sign to that effect at 16th Ave housewares, by whose authority I don’t know. I tried to do a search to see if I can find mekoros all I found was http://www.ohryosef.org/tevillas/tks001.htm with no mekoros I have no idea who this kollel is.

Neither the OU oukosher.org/index.php/common/article/a_tevilas_keilim_handbook/ or StarK http://www.star-k.org/cons-appr-tvilaskelim.htm

mention it. The email addresses are [email protected] [email protected]

An even better idea is try to find a copy of ????? ???? ??????

1: I’m not checking up on my Rav.

2: My Rav is not big into “why”. If you ask a shayla, accept my answer. It doesnt matter why. I see great wisdom in that.

3: I was bringing it up as something people might err in, but have no idea why this is the case and couldnt support this position other than “my rav said”.

    Sorry for the confusion.
