“Moderator 80” / “feivel” is someone who’s very much appreciated.

Feivel, You are one of my favorite posters. You brought a certain well-reasoned intelligence which combined science and Torah. I was wondering where you went. Hatzlacha on your endeavors.

health – i think we can definitely understand now why info. that can more easily identify us, one would not want repeated. i would think that the anonymousity (don’t think that’s a word, but if squeak and lewis carroll can make up words, so can i) factor would be even more important for a mod.

icot – see, even for one who is so careful not to reveal info., ’tis very hard to not reveal such crucial aspects of oneself.

just goes to show, that maybe i’ll make it in this world as a private detective, after all.

(i think you mentioned in one thread that something reminded you of one of asimov’s books – i think it was pebble in the sky (it was one of the early ones that i haven’t read)

and to all the mods who work hard to make this place a safe place – thank you, cuz part of the fun of this place is being real and sometimes letting it slip that you’ve heard of isaac asimov 😉

and if icot, you would have mentioned that you’ve read harry potter, i would completely be able to identify you. 😉

What makes a good moderator?

(Reflections from a long-time lurker and occasional poster, after discussion with friends. This post is speaking in general and NOT about any particular individual. This thread just seemed like a good place to put it.)

1. A good moderator thoroughly knows the rules published at http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/rules-of-the-ywn-coffee-room-please-read.

2. A good moderator enforces only these rules and does not make up his own.

3. A good moderator recognizes that his role is moderator and not participant and therefore expresses no opinion in a thread.

4. A good moderator does not take sides in an argument between members. A good moderator will not ban a member solely because he does not like him or her.

6. A good moderator will not shut down a thread or refuse to allow a posting for the sole reason that he disagrees with an opinion.

7. A good moderator respects the membership and in return earns respect for himself.

8. A good moderator will not give false information about his education, occupation or level of Torah observance.

9. A good moderator will encourage members to post in clear and grammatically correct English.

10. In keeping with the principles of achdus, a good moderator will not allow baseless and hurtful statements about one member to be posted by another or for similar statements about one part of the community to be posted by members of another.

actually, i’m pretty sure Rav Chaim Kanievsky never read them either.

truthfully, there’s no need to read them – only if you like this kind of stuff. the brilliance of the author was that the first book is written on an 11 year old level, the age of the main characters at the time. then she keeps writing progressively to older level, as harry potter gets older and older.

it’s a combination fantasy/science fiction type of book in which she created a whole magic world, which you actually feel can be true.

also, i read some old cr stuff – i really liked what feivel had to say and his stuff on the wonders of animals, etc.

never knew about 88 but I really miss 80. Oh well. All good things have to come to an end sometime

I’ve only ever seen mod 29 and mod 100

80 is no longer a mod. Despite his anavah in saying he was “demodded” (http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/why-is-the-left-pro-islam#post-568689), he actually gave it up in his own, I believe to spend more time learning.

I hold that Feivel is one of the Lamed Vov Tzadikim.
