Why does it seem that every few days there is yet another “advertorial” posted as a news story? Fundraisers, Chinese Auctions, even colleges! If YWN wants to offer free advertising, they are welcome to do that. But at least clearly label them as such!

    Bump.

With the new system, there are some ads which are not labeled as such. The only indication is the word “promotions” in the URL.

    The following is an example:

Almost everyone understands that running these websites is not just a community service, but has to support the people working on them as well. Kudos to the webmasters for giving out free advertorials to Klall organizations, that cannot always afford to purchase online advertising space for worthy causes, but are desperate to get their important messages out to the public.

The reader and A Heimishe Mom always have the option not to click on an article if it isn’t of interest.

I don’t think they’re giving free advertisements, I think they’re just not labeling the ads properly. On the old site they used to clearly write “COMMUNICATED CONTENT” but they don’t do that anymore.

It’s both annoying and dishonest to post a paid advertisement as a news story. (I don’t think the developers/editors do it on purpose, I’m just pointing out that it comes across this way)

LakewoodNJMom: “The reader and A Heimishe Mom always have the option not to click on an article if it isn’t of interest.”. However, one can’t always tell by the headline if they are interested in the story. Sometimes it is just a request for tefillos for a person.
