    LOL Goq!! 😀

these days, when money is tighter, I also sometimes just put in for the jackpot… I figure if it’s meant to be, then I’ll win. (I haven’t). you have just as much of a chance to win as anyone else… if that’s what Hashem decided for you on Rosh Hashana & sealed on Hoshana Rabba.

as I said on other threads, I haven’t won ANYTHING in over 2 yrs now. but in 2009, @ one auction, I won 4 prizes.. 2 were jackpot. (one kosher Colorado trip & one bridal gown rental).

you havta give maaser anyway, so take the chance 🙂

if you put $260 into oorahs auction you automatically win a free gift. Its the best!

a number of auctions give you a choice of gifts for certain amounts of donations.

some give a small gift with your admission fee upon entrance.

When I receive something for my donation, auction prize or even aliya, I try to not count that value as my maaser. So I only bid on things that I’m willing to pay for from my non maaser fund (aka my credit card).

if you win a prize, the amount of money you would have been willing to spend on it is deducted from the maaser amount you donated… you can’t count it as maaser.

I don’t think I’m being clear on the halacha. sorry :/ [help?!]

If you pay with a credit card then lichora the value of the miles you get should not count toward your maaser since that is like “winning” something.

Also, remember that the place you’re giving tzedaka to has to pay credit card fees so you might want to subtract that from your maaser cheshbon too.

So your now in the revivng old threads mode?

BTW, if you buy something with maaser money, the prize (if you happen to win) might belong to maaser. Think about it!
