i think potly is a nast yword that shuold be done away with. did you notice that there is no such thing as ”portly” in womens wear?

i also dont like the idea of ”plus ” sizes for women.

these titles should not be used.

imho naming a womans clothing store ”dress barn” is ridiculous as well.

does that make the people who shop there cows and sheep?

    think about it.

while i am on the subject….anyone here eat ”skinny cow” products? they are mostly diet ice cream and recently came out with some snacks.

why would i want to buy something named skinny cow—cow still makes me feel fat.

    thoughts anyone??

Yes. Get lapband surgery. Oh, and while your at it, get lenses coloring, a nose job, caps on your teeth, your hair straightened within an inch of your life, plastic surgery…

You wouldn’t want to scare people on the street (Or at least that’s what Yitta Halberstam in her article would recommend.)

Portly means that you like to drink Port. Ports can be pretty good to drink, so it seems fine to me.

Portly sounds like a failed attempt to be nicer than saying stubby.

Also, I think men’s stores should carry a size of suit called “yeshiva guy”.

See, mens suits come in 3 types of size (leaving out “short” and “Tall”). There is regular, athletic, and portly.

Regular means there is a 6 inch drop from shoulders to waist. So a 40 regular has 40 inch shoulders, and a 34 inch waist.

Athletic means an 8 inch drop. So a 40 Athletic has 40 inch shoulders and a 32 inch waist.

Portly has a 2 inch drop. So a 40 portly has 40 inch shoulders and a 38 inch waist.

    You see the gap here?

Enter the size 40 Yeshiva Guy. 40 inch shoulders and a 36 inch waist. Almost every yeshiva guy I know would fall into this sizing category.

Every time you go to buy a suit, you put on a jacket and either the shoulders are drooping off the side, or the buttons won’t close. Take a portly, and the waist is swimming.

PBA – are you serious ? I didn’t know (and never thought about) how the sizes work. But you are so dead on, I’m rolling. Guess Italians don’t eat chulent.

The heimishe stores – you know, label says “made in Italy”, and was really made to spec. in China by the store – always have bigger waists, or at least a lot of room to let out.

Go to Bloomingdales or Lord & Taylor and get a custom made suit.

Portly by definition means you are carrying too much weight in the belly. Medical studies have shown that men with increased belly fat have a higher instance of heart problems and stroke.

I used to be a portly until I started jogging again. I went into a men’s store and asked to see their portly suits. The salesman told me that they didn’t call their suits with larger waists “portly”. They called them “Flagship” lol

Popa, I think I would classify you as “Husky” (I think the fancy term is “Forte”)

And what about the size 40 shoulders with size 42 waist?

Somehow the name Barn makes me think that anyone who shops there will have to pay some guy 10000 dollars to go out with them. or get NASI to pay for them. Or guilt some poor guy with low self-esteem into getting into a marriage he will hate forever.
