I was wondering what everyone else pays for “registration fees” at their local Yeshiva or Day School. Are these fees “refundable” at your school? Do you pay per child or per family and will the school discount them?

Lastly, I was hoping to illicit your thoughts as to what you think should happen with these fees if the school doesn’t work out for the child(ren).

For us here in LA, the fees range from $400 – $600 per child with no apparent discounts. It seems these fees are non-refundable and are separate from an application fee payable when your child enters high school, this fee ranges from $100 – $150.

What happens if you apply based on the way you *think* the school will be and it turns out different, should you get some or all of your money back?

Fees are fees and they are meant to generate income for the school. Application fees are gathered for the sole perpose of collecting money. Registration fees are the same except they are limited to the number of students that are accepted to the school. And no if it doesn’t work out for the student, you can only get the remaining tuition checks back but not the registration fee. And you will probably not get back the tuition for the month pro-rated unless the student left the first few days of the month.
