Ever get a compliment that left you scratching your head in confusion? Like, wait a minute was that compliment also an UNintended insult?

    Examples:

    You look good THESE DAYS.

    That purse looks VERY PRACTICAL.

    You’re a beautiful PERSON.

Those boots must keep you VERY WARM.

THIS sheitel looks good on you.

    You look very HEALTHY.

Eclipse I hear what you’re saying…but its going too far, to look into it as insults, cause otherwise we practically would be so limited in what we could say to anyone anywhere!

I got insulted once when someone said “wow you don’t even look pregnant” and i was standing there 8 or 9 months pregnant and she had just seen me in the pool in a bathing suit????!!!!

SHe meant you’re so gezint and chubby to start with we don’t see the baby! AChhhh.

Sometimes we have to realize that people say stupid things. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are stupid they just say stupid things. What can you do, don’t take it personally, just laugh at the stupidity of the comments.

I was paying for some items in a store and was with my daughter. The cashier looks up at us and blurts out “wow your daughter is beautiful and has gorgeous eye she must take after her father.”

I know what she meant as my daughter does not resemble me at all but I went away with a huh what just happened feeling.

Nachas, that’s funny!Someone just saw a pic of my ex and said,”I knew he was good-looking—your kids are beautiful!”(I didn’t agree with first part of that, but had to laugh about the insinuation that my genes were peripheral here!)

or how about a friend telling you “So and so told me that she thinks you are really sweet ….” like she doesn’t think I’m anything special and she is shocked that I have a good name in the world and that someone thinks I’m sweet…. LOL It was a while ago but thought it was funny.

I love long hair. So if I say to any of you “Wow, your hair got so long,” take it as a compliment.

you look pretty good for your age….when someone tells you that tell them that you are 20 yrs older than you really are.

then you will look GREAT for your age.

Obviously the line “Your hair got so long!” is innocuous enough that it could be read as either compliment or insult- and depending on who says it, and how badly you really do need a haircut, will determine how I’d interpret it. Not that I sit around interpreting every third word out of a person’s mouth, but backhanded compliments always amuse me.

Things can always be worse – like when someone asks when your due date is and you are NOT pregnant.

When I was an ER nurse, I asked a woman how old her father (the patien) was and she said “he is my husband.” I also asked a woman how old her grandchild was…..and she was the mother. Then I finally smartened up and began asking “what relationship are you?” I figured I couldn’t make any more boo boos that way.

i would take long hair as a compliment because I love long hair but I guess I can understand why someone wouldn’t take it that way.
