Apparently it was already nightfall when he was actually let out of his jail cell- so no longer chanuka.
Does it count if Trump signed the release on zos chanuka (depending what time zone you live in of course; it was no longer zos chanuka, say for me or for cahbadshlucha)?

The President’s order commuting Rabbi Rubashkin’s sentence was definitely issued and even became publicly available on Zos Chanukah (in both Washington, where it was issued, and in New York, where R. Rubashkin was). I believe he was driven out of jail either before shkia or bein hashmosos.

It’s amazing that he was released within hours of the presidential commutation, on the very same day. Virtually always in the case of a pardon or commutation it takes at least days if not weeks for the prison system to process the release.

Just like the alter rebbe. He was told he is free but the next day he was let out.

Senator Orin Hatch, one of the Congressmen fighting for Rubashkin’s release, yesterday posted on his Twitter that Rubashkin’s release is “a Chanukah miracle”.

    duh!!!!
    it’s called diversion.
Do you think it’s a coincidence that the communities most affected by the personal exemption cut are the ones dancing and praising the president? I wouldn’t say that is WHY he commuted the sentence but the timing isn’t really hard to figure out.

we have rubashkin to thank for the low price of kosher chicken from the postville plant .
the result of the overzealous prosecutors forcing the plant to be sold for pennies on the dollar helped the buyers (shor habor) sell kosher chicken for a greatly reduced retail price.
this benefits all of us kosher consumers.
at least rubashkins suffering wasn’t for naught.

The price of kosher chicken went down after Rubashkin sold the business?

@kitov that’s an outrageous post- to say it’s great someone sat in jail for 8 years and lost agri processors etc so you can save a few cents…that is assuming that’s even true.

Anyhow, if you want to know, the reason why this is such big big deal is because there is great spiritual significance for all the Jewish people here, and that’s why many Yiddin have been touched from all kreizin.

Rabbi Wolf from maayan Yisrael has some great points on what’s been going on between this and Yerushalayim etc… The voice notes are going around, whoever is curious can get ahold of them. He learns allot and quotes many sources.

anyhow moshiach is definitely coming, and as getzel Rubashkin, SMRs son said that he was working one minute and then he heard the news and had to run to get to his father, without even a minute to change his pants.

The Geula will come the same way – bhesech hadaas, although we are expecting it, just like SMRS freedom, so let’s make sure we are wearing our best Torah and mitzvos “pants” cuz he’s coming very soon and once he does we won’t have time to change our pants, so let’s chap arein and live the best way while we still have the chance

The reason this is a big deal is because a Yid is free, and he and and his family are b”H reunited after eight long years when it seemed like it would be another 19.

We should be happy he is free but not to excess….the many public officials from all ends of the political spectrum who signed letters supporting his release did so because they believed his sentence was excessive, not because an “innocent” man was being held in jail.

And we must profusely thank President Donald Trump, who was the Ribono Shel Olam’s messenger to deliver this great victory to Klal Yisroel, after the previous President refused despite the miscarriage in justice for Rabbi Rubashkin that was identified by so many non-Jewish high American officials (including AGs, Congressmen, etc.)

    Like we’ll read in next week’s parsha: וַיָּקָם מֶלֶךְ-חָדָשׁ…

We should be dancing in the streets with music and great simcha that he’s free and our yearslong efforts at pidyon shvuyim was successful.

Which is exactly why you did see thousands and thousands of Yidden spontaneously dancing in the streets with music and great simcha the very day he was released, even though he was released late in the day. In Boro Park, Crown Heights, Monsey, Lakewood, Toronto, Eretz Yisroel and many other places.

    @chabadshlucha.
I didn’t say it was worth putting rubashkin in jail
in order to reduce the price of kosher meat.
I just made the public aware of the fact that they benefited from rubashkins suffering.
certainly I am unhappy with the fact that he spent time in jail
and I am happy he got release from jail.

the price of kosher chicken and meat produced in rubashkins former plant is being sold cheaply now in Walmart and in some crown heights grocery stores.

Even Joe would not have wanted SMR to rot in Jail for 7 years to lower the price of a hindl…the new management of the Postville Shlachthois, though, seems to be doing a good job and to my knowledge, there have been zero problems with banking or immigration issues since they assumed ownership.

” zero problems with banking or immigration issues since they assumed ownership”

BH glad to hear the feds didn’t see put to go after and financially ruin another yid. Maybe they saw it wasn’t worth it from Rubashkin….

That comment made me cringe as well. Please educate yourselves. I know the Rubashkins personally, and they are so honest and kind and amazing – if you’d like to hear stories I can go on and on.

This sentence was the equivalent of putting someone in jail for 27 years because they didn’t list the 20 dollar bills they made babysitting on their tax form…

They were millionaires and lived in a normal sized house and used their money for chessed. Were so normal and unassuming that you would never know they had money

Just one story- one year erev pesach a man from the community with a large family came running in to the Rubashkins house all stressed out. He frantically told SMR that his fridge broke and doesn’t know what to do. SMR told him not to worry and calmly instructed him to tell leah to give him one of their (2 or 3 hosting over 50 people abd making everything from scratch) fridges.

Of course our hakoros hatov to the Ribono Shel Oilem (not to mention Pres. Donald Trump) needs to be forever. When tzadikim regain their freedom they make a seudas hodoa annually.

No one will ever forget what they were doing the moment they heard the Zos Chanukah neis two years ago of the completely unexpected very early release of the Tzadik Rav Sholom Mordechai Rubadhkin.

Actually, myself (and I suspect several other CR regulars) have no clue where they were when SMR was released. It was one of the Trumpkopf’s few worthy pardons among a much longer list of pandering to his base starting with Sheriff Joe and continuing with his recent actions with the three military personnel convicted of “war crimes”, technically rules of engagement). However, the SMR release was a bit overdone and not up there with 9/11 or the Nats winning the World Series).

The moment and the next several days were filled with joy like I never experienced before. It was uncanny and beyond understanding and the same feeling was felt generally throughout the Jewish world.

FYI I am not a normally joyous person. I’m typically pessimistic and serious.

Why do you think some Jews did not feel it? Would the same Jews lack joy in Moshiach? Is there anything one can do about it?

“Why do you think some Jews did not feel it? Would the same Jews lack joy in Moshiach?” Rubashkin is not Moshiach. I think that’s a good reason right there.

“How do you know Rubadhkin (aka Rubashkin isn’t Moshiach?

We learn from chazal that a possible candidate for moishach has certain attributes including one who himself lives a life focused on limud torah, is meticulous about the observance of all taryag mitzvot, serves as a role model to other yidden to live an exemplary life in accordance with daas Torah etc. However, chazal did not teach that being careless about dina d’malchusa and being a convicted felon [specifics edited] qualify one to be moishiach. Was SMR unjustly sentenced to 27 years in federal prison? Yes. Does a pardon from the Trumpkopf indicate that he will lead us to binyan bayis shlishi and the end of galus? Perhaps not.

We all witnessed millions of Jews, from all walks of life, joyous beyond reason during his release. I wonder about those who were not joyous since it was not a rational moment.

I obviously lurk here a bit so I know SL would not be joyous and I believe it is due to some internal state. SL and others are just going to turn on their joy when they have rational proof of Moshiach? I don’t think so.

How do I know Rubashkin isn’t Moshiach? Because he’s a Levi, that’s how.

Katan Hashtus, while chazal did not teach that being careless about dina d’malchusa and being a convicted felon [specifics edited] qualify one to be moishiach, they also didn’t teach that it disqualifies one. It’s completely irrelevant. And the whole Rubashkin family are true tzadikim, as anyone who knows them can attest. But they are not descended in a male line from Dovid Hamelech, so that rules them out.
