Hi all, Winnie the Pooh wants to know (for a friend, of course) what would be an inexpensive portable space heater which would do a good job of heating a large room, while using very little electricity?
Please don’t wait until the summer to answer.

Daas, you see you already got more answers that I would have had I really had a friend who wanted advice on portable space heaters and started my own thread on the matter.
But who cares about space heaters. Can you ask the velt about their opinions on space travel for tourists?Search for “portable oil-filled radiator”. They’re relatively efficient. But for a large room, you’d probably need more than one of them.
Not station-ary, that’s for the Russians.
Winnie…it really depends on what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to heat the space in a large room or do you you want a person in that space to feel warm?? If the fomer. any of the oil-filled radiators will do a good job although it will take a while . Some of the higher-end ceramic heaters also do the job but not as efficiently (cost-wise). However, if a person i trying to keep warm in a cold room, a glass or two of a good mid-range scotch will do the job at a considerably lower cost than heating the entire room with a space heater.
I’m with DovidBT regarding oil filled radiators. They are safe and economical and come in a variety of from minis to large. FWIW spend the extra $$ on a DiLonghi, if you must cut costs get a Pelonis. Do not use extension cords with them.

This thread was a test to see whether DaasYochid can generate more responses for me than I can when starting a thread, see the parallel thread on simple printers.It depends on how you are using the term “efficiency”. The electrici energy input to an electric space heater is converted primarily into heat with some of the power also converted into light and kinetic energy (both of which would also contribute to warming the room). Also remember that generating electricity itself is highly ineffiient as compared to alternative direct combutstionheating sources such as natural gas. When many people ask about “efficiency” they are using the term less as an thermal engineering metric but rather in a layman’s sense as to which type of space heater will make you feel warmer most quickly and at least cost

Right, so explain to me how 2 space heaters that use the same amount of electrical energy can put different amounts of heat into a room.
After some thought, I realized that I misspoke.
A radiative heater heater can potentially be more efficient than a forced air heater, since it can make the occupants of a room feel warmer without necessarily heating up the air in the room.
